The war is not a skirmish. It is a war with geopolitical consequence with the power to set us toward continued prosperityor close off vital interests. Up to last week, Iran had no intention of negotiating with us. Iran’s leaders now believe Trump’s decree that he would end their society lightning-fast destruction. We could do that. Democrats in and out of office will tell you that Iran is winning. They aren't. The disconnect is two sides defining victory. For us, it is surrender. For Iran, it is survival.
Iran’s pre-war goal was obtaining nuclear weapons that would checkmate the West, like North Korea and dare the West and the Sunnis to screw with them. They believed that the Americans and Europe would not confront a nuclear-armed Iran with miniaturized a nuclear weapons and put it on a missile that could reach the West. Eventually the U. S. We needed to act and stopped that ambition.
A month of fighting is nothing in the history of U. S. warfare. It may not be over, but it’s closer to the end than the beginning because the rules of engagement for our side are different than before. We are dealing with a vulnerable enemy. The difference is money. Cut the money off, and Iran would dissolve quickly without oil revenue.
The nature of war has changed for the West. Europe is convinced that war is passé and have stripped their militaries of warfighting capacity in favor of social benefits. The war in Ukraine has challenged that belief. Europe has settled on ex ante surrender. Iran won’t surrender in the traditional sense. (Neither will Ukraine). They believe that their defense is in depth (tunnels, redoubts, defense industrial base, etc.). Their willingness to accept huge losses will see them outlast us.
We must take away their theocratic doctrine and Send them back to the Stone Age if needed; giving Persia time to fix itself as a nation of industrious, storied people who can join the ranks of good nations. That's where we are.
