According to US officials, the United States has used up a massive amount of ammunition since the start of the conflict: over 1,000 Tomahawk missiles and up to 2,000 air defence interceptors (Patriot, THAAD, etc.).

As a result, some believe that in the event of a short-term crisis, Washington would not be able to fully execute its plans to defend Taiwan.

The problem is as much industrial as it is military: replenishing these stocks could take several years, up to six years according to some estimates.
