Zimbabwe is planning to give back land to White farmers. Should they take the deal?

The aim is to solve the country's economic and famine problems, and rebuilt positive relations with the West. But both Whites and blacks are divided on the issue.

A handful of blacks support the reforms, saying they will solve the country's famine and economic issues and we should move past the past. The majority however, were not so receptive, claiming there is nothing to return as the land wasn't theirs to begin with, and see it as reverting back to colonialism and reenforcing White supremacist mindset, that black Africans need White people to thrive. Many are very displeased with what they see as the current government kissing the White man's ass! They believe Africa should be run and inhabited by blacks, even if it means poverty and famine. While other blacks put the blame on black leaders, for screwing over their own brothers to begin with.

On the WHITE side, feelings are also mixed. While some welcome the reforms and think they're a step in the right directions, others believe the blacks made their bed and should lay in it. Some also saw the whole thing as a joke, arguing the land being returned, is only a fraction of what was siezed. While many are using it to reenforce White supremacist ideology, and the notion that black nations can't prosper without Whites, and some are even commanding the blacks for finally swallowing their pride and agknowledging this.

So if the Whites take the deal, there is a chance they will be met with hostility from locals who oppose the reforms, even if relations between Zimbabwe and the West improve.

No. Simply because there's no guarantee you're not going to be forced off it again next year. Farmers tend to be asset rich, cash poor. Their money gets tied up in property, tractors, nice shiny new 4x4, stud animals etc. My fear would be next time they'd size the lot not just the land.

The reality is you can't just replace a white farmer who has all the equipment and maintenance/trading networks with a black one who has nothing. The question is is that network even still there should the whites come back.

Too little too late. Its been 20-26 years. Those white farmers were mostly aged 30-50 at the time so now they'd be in their late 50s or 70s and its around this time their children would have taken it over with that passed down knowledge along with agricultural education. Farming is a generational occupation and a buisness. Its not just about farmers feeding their families like the short sighted Zimbabwes saw but of feeding the entire country.
