In 2021, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act was passed. It included Section 24220, which requires passenger motor vehicles to be manufactured with "advanced drunk and impaired driving prevention technology". I also assume it's intended to fight theft.

This goes into effect in 2027.

I don't think there is, though one of the articles I linked suggests that this might not be enforceable, that the Trump administration will fight it, or that it will be either repealed or ignored.

Ok true story. 2025 Chevy Tahoe police vehicle. It hollers at me constantly for taking my eyes off the road. That might be ok for some people but for a cop checking for crimes, trespassers, or all the other things we watch for it’s totally distracting

The Chevy Tahoe is our go to car for a supervisors car. Plenty of room in the back for cones, police tape, medical supplies and so on. Comfortable and fast…. I can stay out driving it all night without fatigue. As for it displaying a message and dinging at me…. Not a big deal. People should keep their eyes on the road.

not to start the engine. and not a face recognition. but yes they should change: before "changing from park to drive" must breathe test. the car will prevent you from driving if the alcohol is too high. can't change to 'drive'. that addition is a good change.
