I do belong to a yacht club and it's not nearly as expensive as you might believe. After all, the club doesn't own the water or the access to it. And if you don't rent a boat slip from the club, which actually is sort of expensive than the rest of it is pretty minimal.
The yacht club my family takes part in is pretty chill. It's mostly old guys so maybe I'm not the best judge. But the connections alone are worth it if you're the type to take advantage of that sort of thing.
