Self checkout makes it WAY too easy for people to get away with stealing. Agree or disagree?

With the amount of retail theft that takes place in the US, I kind of cannot believe that self check is still around in 2026.

So we actually know someone who stole a hundreds of dollars worth of stuff from Walmart over a long period of time using self check out. They actually have cameras at the very top and are very good at catching it. However, they don't bother with small thefts because it's not worth their time. They wait until you have stolen enough that they can hit you with a large charge and then ban you.

yes, even though there is a store employee that watches the customers I bet there is still theft. I think it is a lot easier to steal stuff from the supermarket than Home Depot.

@DryGermanGuy not actual food, but I have seen anti theft stickers on high theft merchandise, like deodorant, laundry scent beads, expensive supplements, etc

Ah, gotcha. I was wondering if things had gotten so bad that the stores had to protect frozen pizzas. Some German stores have or had expensive razor blades in anti-theft casings.
