Should countries like Britain and Denmark get rid of the monarchy once and for all?

[foxsquirrell]

Yes it is high time to get rid of this arcane ideology even as a symbolic form

No it is part and parcel of the tradition and identity of these countries who are still technically a monarch

This system has existed for thousands of years so no. There's a small vocal minority who want them abolished but it would be a shame to end something thats lasted so long on a whim or we could end up like France.

Personally I think the UK is too politically divided, we've got around 8 major parties and loads of minors. The monachy is non political and I think that helps in global diplomacy and giving people a sense something is keeping politicians in check

[foxsquirrell]

Just because a political system has been going on for thousands of years does not mean that it should go on for ever if it is deemed irrational for instance. In today's world at least in modern countries, countries are run by governments not by kings and queens. Infact if you take for example Britain even though it is technically a monarch the queen has no political power as it is parliament who decrees laws and such stuff. The queen or the king has to obey. So you can see how ridiculous it is. Its high time for people to grow up and leave the past behind. At least where it is no longer relevant in this time and age.

[foxsquirrell]

And what the f... have the riots of France have to do with this?

[lilBigPotato]

I don't live there, it's not my decision. But since Spain has one too, I'm generally in favour of the monarchy. I think it has some advantages for the country. But the royals need to follow the law like everyone else and it shouldn't be a money sink.

[DryGermanGuy]

Their people have to decide. But a majority seems to be proud of their monarchies.

[foxsquirrell]

Obviously it is their people who have to decide. If they want to keep the monarchy for the feeling of it it is up to them. I am just asking a question here to see what people on average think. I think it should be gone. A body called a government loyal to the people and representing the will of the majority should be the way of governance these days.

[DryGermanGuy]

Well, the old absolutist monarchy has gone for quite a whole now, so it's more about being a figurehead and representative for the state now.

[Kelly6]

Nope.

This system has been here for centuries, that also includes my country.

And it doesn't harm anyone.

[foxsquirrell]

Even if it might not harm anyone, what is the use in today's age? I think it is a medieval system that should have been abolished long ago.

[Anonymous]

Yeah, time to leave the 19th century

[Likes2drive]

Yeah because that’s such and old system

[Anonymous]

Yes, it’s so stupid.

[Iron_Man]

Huh?
