I do think sex appeal sells, and now it's pretty much tradition for women to wear skirts in tennis, vollyball, etc. It was set up by men.
Money
Because if they look good, they know more men will be willing to watch them, therefore, more money on sports tickets and all that stuff
I think tennis pro and hottie Anna Kornakova from when she turned pro at 15 made more money modeling than when she was playing.
Then it's not only for money, maybe she was playing tennis because she like that job too.
As someone who's played volleyball half her life, I never got much of a choice in terms of it being uniform, went from wearing basketball shorts in middle and high school to tight shorts
In college* it was uncomfortable but you got used to it but there really wasn't a choice
Definitely for performance. I am a track athlete & used to do gymnastics competitively & it was weird getting used to it at first, but when it comes to keeping cool, aerodynamics & movability less is better
All in many ways. But the best way to do these excersises is to do them naked , like they did in ancient Grease. So the tight clothes give them the same but not showing a naked body. Admittedly some of the styles or designs can be near erotic...
Yea and unless they doing fencing they don't need much protection, so less clothes makes sense.

Maybe once upon a time. It used to be a running joke that female athletes were ugly masculine lesbians with unibrows, hairy legs and armpits but my god some of these girls are hella hot and really pretty.
They wear those clothes because of functionality and comfort, which is definitely a performance issue.
It's based on the individual and the statement that they what to make, for some it's all for comfort and proformance while others use it to gain attention for something else.
they dont really have the choice i think, like they just do it cos they're told to (it makes people watch them more, it's also been that type of outfit, exc?)
This is what I've always wondered about - and, like a female member here said at some point regarding wearing a skirt - it is only worn because it can be lifted up easily to get fucked.
So, yes - they want to maximise their sex appeal. There is no functional benefit to a naked butt in swimming, tennis, etc. If anything, for aero-dynamics avoiding crevices reduces wind resistance.
They hope for sex-appeal driven sponsorships, money and status (and a cooler boyfriend to boot)

100% they do it to try and bring more attention/money into their sports. You see how many wedgies they have to pick out of their ass in every competition? I call bullshit to anyone trying to tell me that's comfortable. lol.
I doubt they want to be objectified, so I would say it's because it helps their performance and it's comfortable.
If all men simply ignored them, the outfits, and everything else... you'd soon discover your answer...

I'll agree some outfits are a bit much but it does infact help your performance to have less clothes and have them be tight fitting
To some degree high performance. But when men wear drastically more clothes it definitely to get sexual attention.

I respect female athletes. They have to work harder to overcome having a larger more ample shapely buttocks and bulbous shape. Their bosooms are constantly trying to break free from their uniforms
