Should Chiellini have gotten a red card for pulling Saka by the collar?

He clearly did it knowing it was too late in the game for a yellow card to cause trouble. Should've been an instant penalty shot for England. Sort of conduct I'd expect from my local 5-a-side youth club, not from a top professional player in a Euro Cup final. The Italians were playing well besides this, so why he felt the need to resort to thuggery I have no idea.
a penalty for fouling on the halfway line? 😭😂😂
Any player with a developed instinct would've immediately reacted and stopped him. It also shows just how disciplined he was because he didn't get disciplined previously so could still take one for the team. England once upon a time had players like him, Rio Ferdinand, Carragher, Keown, etc all were physically gifted.
@Alejandro3000 so he violates a clear rule of the game, and its the other player's fault for not preventing the offense? Why don't we just give them all knuckle dusters and whoever doesn't get knocked out, wins?
Aww poor boy got pulled down by a man in a mans sport, throw the book at him!!! No wonder "little" Lionel Messi got away with scoring all those goals 🤔
It was a clear deliberate off the ball attack.. An easy red card...
It is a professional foul not a red
@mattissebfan5 you're only saying professional because chiellini is a big name
@medhat-m Not at all how many times do you see a team on the attack and a player will foul them ok yes chiellini was little bit over the top but it's still professional foul
@mattissebfan5 well, personally.. I'm not into this soft football era... So a foul like this which is still not dangerous or can cause an injury.. Is not the end of the world for me.. Still I think it's a red card but because chiellini is a big name... Even pique got away with it many times before
I just saying that he pulled the jersey which you see a fair bit whether the rule needs to change maybe
@mattissebfan5 yeah

It was definitely a bookable offence at the least, but it depends whether or not he was the last man, like if he was, then yeah, a straight red, but I'm not sure if he was, I genuinely don't remember seeing a replay to determine that.
Red or not though, sometimes you have to take one for the team.
Someone's upset. 😂

The absolute state of brit bongs. Just get to acceptance already.
You’re v boring
It's not a red card offence, he was not the last man and as such it was not a clear chance on goal. It's a yellow card. It could not easily be interpreted as excessively dangerous play either.
The yellow card was all that could be given.
Either that, or do away with VAR seeing as it wasn't used once!
Funny that, VAR wasn't able to be used when Sterling dived and won a penalty against Denmark. Karma
He's not last man, it's a professional foul and a yellow is what you normally get for deliberate behaviour. Why do you think it's a red?
Because it’s malicious
Yeah and what's your excuse as to why Jorginho wasn't sent off for what could have been a career ending challenge on Grealish?
@aquariusmystery This is a sport, you're using the wrong language darling, a shirt pull is a standard professional foul.
What's malicious is Southgate selecting Saka for the 5th penalty when he's an inexperienced 19yr old. The consequence is racial abuse by England fans and emotional distress that will have left him with ill feelings. I wouldn't blame him if he didn't play for England again. There are still deep racial issues in our country and until that's resolved 55yrs will become 100yrs+
It’s still abusive
Hahahaha
England played shit, and were lucky to even be in the final.
Your impotent anger is moot.
I call this Karma, stop whining, the cup came to our Rome
I suggest to seek professional help for the ones that dared to attack innocent italian fans and children.
Shame on you
Ok but that wasn’t me?🤣🤣🤣still doesn’t excuse your team for dirty playing does it
We didn’t abuse the Danes tho. You can’t excuse violence🤣🤣🤣
fully grown men football is returning and I'll gladly watch Italy next season. I've been annoyed for long time watching the English PL and La Liga adopt metro-sexual males running around where even the tiniest touch results in theatrics, fouls and penalties. It wasn't like this in the 90s and best part of 00s. Little boy Messi the last decade was so protected by the ref La Liga teams just let him run through untouched no wonder he scored all those goals 😂 and UEFAlona just helped Barca win all the time. In grown men football you would be able to physically react to a cheating player if he dived and the ref would red card and blind eye the retribution. This would end that type of skinny player and readopt MEN.
@Alejandro3000 news flash the 90s was 30 years ago. Get a grip
It was a bookable offence but then Italy players could complain england were diving to easily.
England should never have been in the final, Sterling dived to win the pen against Denmark. The rules had prevented VAR from changing the decision.
@Alejandro3000 England players diving at every opportunity is an age-old tradition 🤣
Of course not and I'm a massive England fan... it's clearly a yellow card and anyone who thinks it's red doesn't understand the rules of football.
No, not a red card. But it probably would have been if Saka was right outside the box and VAR ruled that he was denied a scoring opportunity.
honestly a red card and a ban for few games
Should England be banned from the World Cup for diving against Denmark? If not that the violence by England fans as Italians entered Wembley and afterwards with little or no policing/stewards? Or the racial abuse directed at Saka Sancho and Rashford? Selecting Saka for the 5th penalty in an international grand final when he's only 19yrs old? I'm from England and the only answer to this is a ban until the nation resets which would take another 55yrs.
He wasn't last man tho, if Saka was a fully grown man he'd have better resistance that's why all attributes are valued in sport.
Shirt pulling to prevent an opportunity to score is not the same intent as punching someone.
@Alejandro3000 and what if he suffered strangulation?
he let go?
Exactly an offence is still an offence
No, he was far from the penalty area, and they still were some italian players that could have stopped him. Tactical.
No, because the rules dictate it is yellow. A referee can only follow the rules
@livolivia based on what? Following the rules?
@livolivia
Lol the referee against Denmark was Danny Makkelie, not Björn Kuipers. Just because you cannot differentiate between referees doesn’t mean they are the same person.
And no, the rules dictate it should be a yellow and it was a yellow
And wow, Danny Makkelie was biased against England? Should I remind you that the decision to give the penalty for what Sterling did was very much contested by a lot of high-level referees? If anything, he was certainly not biased against England
Players do this all the time and much worse. No this doesn’t deserve a red card. You really have to do something stupid to get a red card.
yes def, harsher penalty because the player fouled is BAME,
It should be harsher penalty because of the total lack of fair play shown, not because the person on receiving end happens to be a particular ethnic origin.
@SomeGuyCalledTom lol I agree, it was definitely not accidental, I suspect a conspiracy because of Brexit,,,
I mean you can't even see that as an accident :/
Yeah, that was a BS call
Both deserve yellow card. The bong ngubu played with his arm intentionally, milliseconds before Italian Chad showed him his place in food chain.
yellow card for being too far from the penalty area
Yea. Its a bitch move
Should've yellow carded the whole England team for being little bitches
Boring
I know you are
Have you had a lobotomy or something? Lol actually you’ll probably have to Google that
I already know what a lobotomy is but nice try xD better luck next time
Makes a change for an idiot
No, because by rule, it's not a red card penalty.
People can downvote my response all they want. It still doesn't change the fact that by rule, the it wasn't a red card penalty. If you believe that it should be a red card penalty, then petition FIFA to change the rule.
Only if was a bookable offence
Another bite from Suarez would've been fine
Yes he should.
BAD CHAKA
