Hi guys and girls. In this MyTake I will be covering the internet trend called "ghosting" and the reasons why people do it. In this MyTake I'm going to answer the main question "Why Did I Get Ghosted". Ghosting happens when one cuts off all communication abruptly without explanation. This is a new social media trend that has caused a psychological uproar on the internet. It is usually associated with dating but in this MyTake I will be covering all facets of "Ghosting". This will include friends, family members, and significant others. Objective: After Reading This Article You Will Know Some Of The Top Reasons Why Someone Will Go Ghost.
Let's Get Started:
1. Avoidance Of Confrontation
"I am not good with confrontations so it's easier to just cut off contact."
Break Down: Ghosters don't typically like confrontation. They will ghost in hopes that they can hide their feelings or protect yours. It's not really effective but it's one of the most common reasons to ghost someone.
2. Cognitive Dissonance
"Ghosting is related to the psychological concept of cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance is when someone holds conflicting beliefs, and this conflict causes tension which is uncomfortable."
Break Down: "To escape the tension, the person's behavior changes and this is justified by the discomfort. So in order to escape the tension between not wanting to disappoint someone but also end the romance, someone can justify their behavior of cutting off contact."
3. Dating Beliefs
I am no longer interested. We are not a couple so we don't need an official breakup.
Break Down: You are still essentially a stranger and they don't owe you anything. Not even an explanation. Can we say SAVAGE!!!!
4. Intimidated
"The intimidator constantly reminds you she doesn’t need you or anyone else to be happy, which in turn makes you feel worthless or unappreciated, so you bounce."
Break Down: Your social status, attractiveness, profession, fame, attention, success, etc are all things that can intimidate potential friends and suitors. There is nothing you can do about being your best self or for living your best life. Just continue doing you and the right people will eventually come around.
5. Learned Behavior
"I get ghosted all the time, so it's not a big deal, get over it"
Break Down: I ghost, you ghost, we all ghost. It's the idea that because someone did it to you then it's okay for you to do it to others. It's treated like a payback or revenge option. So you most likely won't receive a reason or apology. Why? Because they never got one when they were ghosted. Don't fall victim to this behavior.
6. Relationship No Longer Serves A Purpose
“Singles might treat others as if they are disposable and many think it is fine to ghost someone who is pretty much a stranger.”
Break Down: On the dating sites like Tinder you will notice individuals ghosting you all the time. Maybe they just wanted to sext and you are not open to it. Or they found someone else more interesting to message. Whichever the scenario may be, ultimately individuals will ghost if they don't get anything from the relationship.
7. No Respect For Boundaries

"I've met a few girls that I've had to "ghost" kinda. We'd go on a date and I'm just not really into their personality or whatever. I tell then I'm not interested, no hard feelings. But they keep pursuing and texting and asking me out again and all that, I try to let them down easy but the only you can do after a while is not respond.
Break Down: If you are clingy, rude, annoying or don't respect boundaries you will most likely be ghosted.
8. Lacks Emotional Intelligence
Here is a response from a ghoster who was asked why they ghosted their best friend.
"I’d been ignoring her for months and all of a sudden, the feelings of guilt and shame that I’d been trying so hard to silence flooded in. I had been a bad friend and she’d finally called it. But I still wasn’t ready to deal fully with the situation."
Break Down: Lacks emotional maturity and cognitive skills to effectively communicate thoughts and feelings to others.
