Against, even if it were a great idea, someone or some alphabet Org. would use it to spy on or destroy peoples lives. Look at what Facebook is, the biggest CIA data base , with people voluntarily giving them their whole lives without warrants. People are losing their jobs , because of their views. My dear! You see or Saw where this would go.😜
@Brainsbeforebeauty Good, I know youโre a smart one ๐ Iโm not either. Well kind of. Facebook took the Wikipedia page on me and made their own FB page without asking me. They both did, I canโt get FB to take it off. I remove the wiki page , but they always put it back. ๐ก๐ก๐ก๐ก๐ก
It might reduce some problems at the beginning but later people will find away around it. Our personal data will be more exposed to cyber security risks. I know you will say that some of our personal data is already out there but that doesn't mean to expose more data to cyber risks. For example: paypal require id verification to sign up. PayPal save our data on secured data base ( nothing is secure 100% but still they have high security level). Now imagine if most of websites require Id verification while many of these websites won't be able to provide high security level as PayPal for example. The result will be devastating
This is how life works when we try to solve a problem we create other problems. For example: technology which indeed made our life easier but also created other problems such as pollution , depression , lazy people with health problems... Etc.
If I'm simply trying to play a video game I don't usually care if the semi-anonymous player I'm against or on the same team is a guy, girl or a monkey.
If I'm on a dating service I'd prefer to have some form of verification so I don't get hooked on talking to someone that could be a child or other type of pretender
I'm for it but sometimes a person needs to be anonymous for some reasons and if the anon uses becomes weird and a creep and might pose danger than he/she should be revealed!
Anyways this guy holding the monster fish gave me shivers 😧
I must bite the spongy forehead for posting photos of creatures that will give us nightmares! 😜
Wth! You call this monster just a FISH, i'm running away naughty sponge forehead, no crazy on the internet can freak me like this alien sea creature ๐ฅบ
As I made new ID because our government annoys people permanently with forcing people to make new IDs. I had the option to make digital ID for online banking but I considered this as a security risk. I don't think our state is competent enough to make identification servers which verify such IDs 100% safe. Online banking runs with phone as well and I don't make any pre-pay internet order, just payment by delivery. For international fora and website is such ID anyway pointless, I don't think verification systems for online ID are standardized worldwide.

What are we talking here? Fingerprints? Facial recognition? Whatever you do, the hackers will figure out how to defeat it if there is enough money involved. This was pretty well written. I learned what Catfishing is.
1-It'd make it easy for people to create fake accounts in your name if you have have your wallet stolen or lost. It would create a criminal market for stolen IDs.
2-Like other people have said, it centralizes your personal information online and this would greatly empower scammers and hackers.
There are other solutions to the problems you outlined. Schools can have seminars on internet safety... Facetime people who could be catfishing, and set your profile to private if you're getting bullied and harassed.
If a private company wants to do that, I support their right to do so. But I think it's dangerous territory. If that becomes the norm, where would people go to express their perspective on governmental abuse/overreach? Nobody could say "our government is in the wrong" without the government knowing who they are.

I'm against it. For one thing as many other people have pointed out no matter what you do hackers will find a way around it and it will be worthless. Also, I don't like the idea of surveillance or having to present identification for every damn thing I do. I particularly don't like the idea of government surveillance but even surveillance by private corporations is far too much. We already have enough people following us around on the internet and we certainly don't need one more problem like this.

Yes, just renewed my State Photo Id and would have no problem identifying who I am and I believe a lot of websites should require it, Now the profile picture on here now is my Senior picture, for simply I don't have an up-to-date picture to post up
I don't know, maybe for sites like Facebook or Twitter, where you're expected to represent yourself and have people you know network with you, but sites like GAG where randos come to discuss what's on their mind? I don't think we all want our dirty laundry and all of our insecurities being made public for our friends, co-workers and family to discover.
Not to mention, it could be dangerous to give out your full info. Stalkers and harassers would easily have full access to the real you. That kind of info is legally available on websites and people can access everything about you if they have your name, including phone numbers, emails, street addresses, employment, etc. It's like handing deadly ammunition to all of the psychos out there.
Universally, no. I think that's a bad idea. But, for certain communities it would be helpful if you could have some innate level of trust between the members. I don't have the right answer, but I understand wanting to trust but because there are so many nuts out there, it's almost foolish to try.
I personally do not think it should be a big deal to confirm your identity, except the biggest danger is the safety and security of the information used to conform the identity. If all the websites require you to provide this information, the repercussions of that database being compromised will be very high. Also reversely, this information can be used by the predators to stalk their victims more effectively. Just my immediate gut reaction! :-)

It would also make it easier for governments to find out who is speaking against them and "take care of them". That makes what you propose a much bigger negative that far outweighs the positives you mention. People would be afraid to speak up on issues and polarization would only get worse. And sexual predators likely would have no trouble using the id of their niece or something to log on, and the false sense of security of such a system would make it even more dangerous.
And your comparison to alcohol and cigarettes is off-base; there is still a difference between the physical world and the virtual world of the internet.
Our information is already out that. If it is implemented it could get out of hand to the point you would need to verify to get onto sites about: music, tv shows, movies, animals, arts & cratfs, fashion, recipes, sports, interior design, landscaping, camping, restaurants, jewelry, your city, your county, your state, you country etc. Would you want to have to verify yourself just to get on to a site about any of that because I wouldn't. I donget where you are coming from but the more and more you need to verify yourself the easier it becomes to get your id and have itvsold on the deep web which is over 99.9% of the internet.
I understand your noble reasons, bbb, but I am totally opposed to online ID verification. It would be just one step closer to an Orwellian society.

I see your argument. Anybody who disagrees with you, is immoral and degenerate. However, I do agree that it's better if people had to properly identify themselves to the agency in which they want to have an account, or to be on line with.
"Anybody who disagrees with you, is immoral and degenerate. " that's so not true People have a right to their opinion as do I but this take isn't about difference of opinions๐
Yeah, there are a lot that abuse it, but have some sense, reading, and yeah, you are going to get burned by Trolls from time to time. TOTALLY AGAINST any kind of ID/Tracking and LIMITING FREE SPEECH!! Identity checking is just another form of CENSORSHIP.
@Brainsbeforebeauty Confused as to your response. I said NOTHING about Sexual Predators, Stalking, harassing, and catfishing, but your response came up, under mine, as if you are responding to me.
I did tho, in this take... And those activities aren't free speech... Where did this take mention free speech, or even insults or rudeness? It didn't...

Just think how many hackers would love to get a photo copy of your ID. And its sitting right there on a hard drive waiting for someone to take it.
I had my identy stolen once. Hard as hell to fix the mess it causes
And you don't think people are already hacking people? They hack you through your IP address and links, etc
So why make it eaiser for them

I haven't thought about that with the deep it requires.
For me I make obvious that my accounts belong to my physical person, while keeping as much personal info private.
But I don't know if that would be a good thing for someone living in a non free country. It could get them prosecuted or killed by their governments.
Universally, no. I think that's a bad idea. But, for certain communities it would be helpful if you could have some innate level of trust between the members. I don't have the right answer, but I understand wanting to trust but because there are so many nuts out there, it's almost foolish to try.
