what would you think about this person?
How would you feel if a fried of yours told you they never wore a seatbelt while driving?
what would you think about this person?
A & B. But airbags alone provide a lot of protection. Compared to modern cars, cars from the 1960's were death traps. For their 50th anniversary in (IIRC) 2012, the NTSB did a standard offset collision test between a 1962 Chevrolet Impala and a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu. The driver of the Impala would have been killed instantly. The driver of the Malibu would have walked away with a possible sprained ankle.
There are so many different comparisons and each are absolutely hilarious.
Foolish and unnecessary risk.
My seatbelt in my car is super annoying. It sits up too high and there's no adjustment on the side wall, so every single time I drive, I'm periodically pulling it down and away from me, to try and get momentarily more comfortable. Sucks. But I still wear it.
Seat belts are terrible things, since they became compulsory the number of organs available for transplant has plummeted. Many patients die on the waiting list because they don't get a transplant in time. I say scrape seat belt laws, killing one idiot can save several lives.
I find this comment a little insensitive. Just because they got involved in a car accident doesn't mean they're an idiot. They could be driving perfectly and still be hit by someone else, there could be vehicle or traffic signal malfunctions, or perhaps they made made a mistake like every human being does. They don't deserve to die because of that. That one person could be an upstanding person, with their own passions, people who love them and with loved ones depending on them.
With the logic presented in your comment above perhaps we should also remove all safety labels, even on drugs. If people don't bother looking up what drug interactions are dangerous they are stupid and deserve to die, more resources for everyone else.
It is an ethical question though, are the needs of many more important than the needs of one? At what point does this become too much? Kill 1 person to save a million? A thousand? Ten?
Is it right to kill an innocent person to harvest his organs? Let's say you might be able to save 20 people, would that be ok? How about 200 people?
Sorry for going off on a tangent, but thank you for reading this far. Hope you have a great day.

I used to know a guy who swore he almost died because of wearing a seat belt in a crash.
He never wore one after that.
No one could convince him that his experience was a freak occurrence.
He's since passed due to natural causes.
RIP, Jim.
you're a Tarantino fan right?
maybe you've seen Death Proof... well once I got in my Mitsubishi and pulled a Stuntman Mike on someone, lmao... of course not as extreme, nothing close to extreme, just close enough to feel the effects of not having the security and safety of a seatbelt. and then onto some drifting as well... in the middle of all of it, they got their seatbelt on.
It would be scary but I do admit I had a scary incident happen
I was at Aldis Store near where we live and I had my seatbelt on
and no matter what we did, I could not get the seatbelt off and
I slid my head under the seatbelt and that is the only way I got
out
It’s there decision, most likely will get a ticket before getting into an accident, I never knew why government cared about whether we die in a car accident, it won’t affect the other drivers life, I never wore one until it was a law. If it was kids not wearing one I would be concerned and yell at them
I think they be foolish they are threre for reason and are stubborn. You could get a hefty fine and even lose your license in some cases. And who ever says there are a safe driver dosent mean everyone on the road not. I also people that say it's uncomfortable or effect there is full of s***.
I would be worried about their safety and I probably would never ask them for a ride again. That's crazy and irresponsible! Thankfully I don't know anyone who doesn't believe in wearing seat belts.
I would take them for a drive in my car.
They will then religious wear a seat belt.
done it before.
Nothing like sheer terror to change peoples minds.
they are adults what they choose to do with their lives is there's i was in a bad car accident pushed under a tractor trailer with my mom driving, i went through the seatbelt did more damage then good but i still wear it outta habit
I'll laugh in their face and tell them to update their will.
It's nothing to do with your own driving - seatbelts keep you safer when someone else hits you.
I was born and raised in a country where literally no one used a seatbelt, driving or not, i was one of them. I moved to Sweden in 2005 and i wear the seatbelt since then.
I know there's cases of people dying because they were wearing a seatbelt but for the most part it does helps, I usually wear mine but for whatever reason I didn't one time and got in a wreck, luckily the airbag caught me, always think about what could have happened
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I know lots of first responders and they tell me that they never had to cut a dead person out of a seatbelt. I wear mine and I make my kids wear them. Anyone else can do what they want.
I don't want to get in a car with a friend (or anyone else) who refuses to wear a seatbelt while driving
well at first i wouldn't believe it n if somehow i was assured that it was true than all i would say is this is their stupidity and i would try to convince them
I’d tell them there’s a $400 up charge added for putting them back together before the funeral.
My brother doesn't wear a seatbelt and he has been in more accidents than me.🤷♂️
So you think he might be an idiot?
But if it wasn't most companies would attempt to make cars without them to skirt costs. Like that always do
What about airbags, back up cameras, antilock brakes, power steering, lane assist, blind spot monitoring. All of these are safety features that the government didn't have to mandate for car manufacturers to include them. People want safer cars and car companies are in the business of making cars that people want to buy. They also don't want lawsuits for unsafe products.
It’s against federal law for a dealership or mechanic to disable or remove any part of a car’s safety system, including the airbags and the airbag indicator light

Anti-lock brakes required by law on medium to heavy vehicles www.federalregister.gov/.../federal-motor-vehicle-safety-standards-heavy-vehicle-antilock-brake-system-abs-performance
And lawsuits dont stop the major companies. A lot of times the pay out they have to do towards the lawsuit is cheaper than putting in these things at all. Yes that is a thing these companies will do.
Usually laws come long after technological advancements.
So what? If these laws didn't come these companies would get away with safety hazards for money.
here's a prime example https://youtu.be/mIF7iGc3CzM
The pinto. Skip to 6:38 where they did a cost benefit analysis and discovered that it would cost wayyyy less to not fix the problem and just pay off any wrongful death and other lawsuits that might occur.
I wouldn't really care. None of my business. I wear my seat-belt.
I would encourage them to do so then call them a crash test dummy.. which would be followed by about 15 minutesbof us cracking jokes on each other and laughing.
This is one thing our governments got right it saves lives!
I've known people like this. I just think they're being stupid and irresponsible.
