A detail that emerged in Microsoft's report for the Competition Board excited GTA fans.

Microsoft may have accidentally leaked the game's release date. About 2 months ago, sites such as Reddit and GTAForums suddenly started to shake with a big claim. Allegedly, a hacker hacked Rockstar and accessed GTA 6's early testing videos. Later, Rockstar admitted that these videos were real and sued. Of course, after this incident, GTA fans followed more clues. An official document that has emerged today may have accidentally revealed when the highly anticipated GTA 6 will be released.

Um, a suspected release date never really meant much (see Daikatana, or Duke Nukem Forever), and these days, means even less; see Bloodlines 2, or Kerbal Space Program 2.

The game having "shooter elements" ranks as one of the safest bets in history, though; the game, if ever released, WILL involve shooting. It may just be crossbows if it somehow transforms into Grand Theft Chariot: Constantinople, but that's still shooting.

As to quality: after San Andreas, Rockstar was on top of the world, and had shown both their ability to make high-quality crime sandbox games, and the public's desire for them. But then they went off in a different direction, and Saints Row took up the baton. But then that series ended (4 had The Boss taking over a galactic empire, and Gat Out Of Hell ended with fighting the Devil, so there's really nowhere else for it to go), and the reboot... Okay, the franchise featured a chain of tire modification shops called "Rim Jobs". One of the early announcements was that that name would be changed; in the final product, it was called "Jim Robs", because the new devs found the old name offensive. If the idea of a shop with that name is too much for you, you should have nothing to do with a Saints Row game. You're too mature to enjoy it; that's not really a bad thing, but it's VERY clearly not for you.

That game flopped (unsurprisingly), and the market's been wide open ever since. I doubt Rockstar feels much pressure to be good; they don't really have any competitors. It still MIGHT, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I don't think GTA 6 is going to be well-received, especially at launch. The fanbase has been impatiently waiting for a decade, and Rockstar as a company has very openly gone very far into woke entertainment doctrine, which is pretty much the opposite of what made the previous titles entertaining (satirical counter-culture). Furthermore, almost none of the staff who made the last few titles successful are still in the company, so I think the most realistic expectation is that the gameplay will be mostly recycled, but the story and content value won't live up to hype. It won't surprise me in the slightest if it ends up being basically grand theft auto in name only.

Well, I just bought GTA V on sale.

It's my first GTA and I want to see the online experience after playing rockstar's RDO for a few years. (Heard a billion times they put all their effort on GTA online and left RDO to die)

The hype doesn't affect me yet.

Estimated release date. So it could take longer. I’m not much of a GTA person but if rockstar makes another RDR I’ll be so happy.

In other words, they are expecting it to take between 1 and 2 years, which I think most people would probably have assumed. Although it's a video game, so expected release dates don't mean much anyway - it's not that uncommon for games to be released *years* later than planned.
