3 days ago, I left it sitting here on the bed as I went downstairs to get something to eat and one of my shoes caught the wire and pulled it off the bed onto the carpeted floor, as has happened a dozen or so times before. When I came back up 2 hours later, all of a sudden, it would hardly do anything I wanted it do, as far as moving the pointer! Normally, . one sideways swipe with it will take it all the way across the screen but now, sometimes I have to do that 5 or 10 times to get it to move that far!! The settings on it have been as fast as it can possibly go for years! I tried resetting it to as slow as it can go, clicking on "apply"and then resetting it on high speed and that didn't work. I even did a go back on the entire computer and the only thing that changed is that, now, when I watch videos on YT I get a number of commercials before, during and after the videos, which I never had before!! It also told me that Fiirefox, that I'd been using for quite a few years was no longer any good and I had to delete it and reinstall it!! (It worked perfectly fine before I did the go back!!) So, now, if I set up a number of videos in a row to watch, it no longer jumps right over to the next one in line automatically and I have to click on each one to play it, nearly all the time, instead of showing a listing of other videos I might want to see down the right side of the screen, it shows them stacked up across the bottom of the screen!!
Anyone know how I can get my mouse back up to normal speed?

I DO believe the problem is solved! The mouse pad was one of those smooth, slick deals, as soon as I flipped it over and started using the rough rubber side, the mouse worked great, again!! So, I just need one of those cloth-covered mouse pads. I've got a bunch of them, I'm just not sure where.

- on the mouse... if you're dropping it and pulling cables constantly then it might just be a bit broken already, get a new wireless mouse instead or a new wired mouse
- on the YouTube ads (commercials) as of recent days, YouTube has started to block access or disable for those who have adblockers installed on their devices... and I think they will do this by default... maybe you should use a browser different than Firefox, and one that already has a built-in ad blocker that works by default ( Like Brave or Opera GX)
- on the playlists... this could depend on you having a YouTube account of your own, or if you're just watching the playlists of others... in either case make sure that it is set to play automatically or make sure you hit the button that says "play all"
IF I pick it up by the wire, the mouse is only a couple ounces so, I seriously doubt that's gonna put any strain on the wire.
I've had a YT account for over 20 years.
If there are such buttons, I have no idea where they are. I've looked. And I've never had to click on a Play All button before. It was working fine, yesterday except on one of the YT tabs I had open, it was doing this shit.
if you pick up the mouse by the cable... then you're unnecessarily pulling all the little wires inside, and this is the reason number one for cables to malfunction, pulling on them... lol
just get a new mouse
get a new browser
and get a new playlist to play
I've got several new play lists, they still won't play automatically.
you really need to learn to navigate menus, submenus, settings and stuff... everything is down there
and that's where you customize things so they work in the way you want them to be
Down where? I tried all that menu shit that I found and NOTHING customizes it the way you're talking about. A few hours ago, I got a commercial, I right-clicked on the button where you can report it as something I don't want to see again,, I even said that it was offensive to me! Once I was done, the ad was still there!!
It sounds like you should give the mouse to the cats and get a new one
I'm considering it!! I'm gonna try using it on the laptop, first to see if there's any difference but, I just thought that, maybe, when it hit the floor, it caused itself to click on some option I don't know about that's causing it to do this. At least one other time, it caused things to vanish on screen until I figured out how to get them back.
This time it could have jarred something loose inside
That's possible but, nothing's rattling.
If a solder joint came loose it wouldn't rattle. It just wouldn't make the connection
But the fall wasn't much worse than a 1' drop into a thin pillow.
I never thought the pad would be the issue
Me, neither but, I tried it and found one of the brand new pads I have that looks like it's got a silk top on it, and have been using it all night without any problem. Maybe the surface of the old one was either reflecting the light too much or not enough but, why was it okay 3 days ago and then, an hour or two later, hardly working at all?
I found a replacement mouse on eBay and all but one are used and only go from about a buck to $12.00 but the brand new one is $50.00!! I would've PREFERRED brand new because I didn't want to buy somebody else's problems but $50 is way too much!! Some other used ones were going for $30 to $45!!
At least you got it working properly
I know!! I was getting REALLY pissed about it!!
I agree with @sparkle460 get a new one
