LinkedIn wants my phone number to confirm my identity now?

I got my account "temporarily" restricted a little over a month ago, and it hasn't been unrestricted ever since, unlike my previous account that was after 2 weeks. Long story short, I made a new account as my attempts to appeal the restriction for the other account failed as I was told it was permanently restricted, and thus I removed the 2FA code from Google Authenticator only for it be temporary. History repeats itself but I don't remove the 2FA code and even after all this time my account is still restricted; I only knew that my previous account got unlocked cause I started getting notification emails from LinkedIn after 2 weeks of not getting any.

Usually when the account gets restricted, they'll require the user to either do a security check puzzle and/or upload photo ID to confirm their identity. A few days ago when I checked, I instead was greeted with a different webpage to confirm my identity through phone number, which I assume is for 2FA SMS. Since I'm paranoid, I chose not to give LinkedIn my real number and instead a fake number through an app called TextFree; however, that app doesn't let people receive verification codes unless they pay a monthly fee, so I decided to switch to Talkatone which does. Sadly, I got an error message after too many attempts and I was told to try again at a later date, but same error today.

For context, LinkedIn has algorithms that are prone to false positives by flagging accounts that they determined to be engaging in spam behaviour. This can be as innocent and ridiculous as being mass reported or after being rejected too many times by a lot of connection invites. Now I only go for people I know in real life, along with those that are mutually connected, so it's not like I just try to connect with completely random people. LinkedIn also unfortunately will not tell people why they got restricted or banned, not even a generic response like what you'd see on Reddit, Quora, Twitter, etc., so I don't know what's wrong.
