I think it's a couple of hours from when the moon first "touches" the sun, until it's completely past the sun. The total part is around 2-4 minutes depending on where you are. I live in the total zone, and it will be around 2.5 minutes.
There really isn't much to see during most of that time. Within about 15 minutes of total, it starts to become more noticeable. Before that, you probably won't even notice it unless you looked straight at it with the glasses.
Over 2 hrs... The moon will cross over the suns path...
