Why do computers take forever to startup sometimes?

Trying to send an invoice and the laptop is on, but it just has a blank screen for the last 2hrs. I have to just power it off using the off button. Always works great until I need to do something important.

Either it's doing an update, or something got corrupted. You should never have to wait anywhere near that long if the computer has an SSD (solid state drive), but if it still has a mechanical (spinning) hard drive, then, yes, it's possible it's actually updating or something, though even that isn't common to have to wait so long.

Failing or corrupted HD/SSD. They often get into self-repair mode if they detect an error at booting.

When’s the last time you updated it? Also, clear your cookies often. An overloaded computer runs slow. Therefore, an occasional purge is good for it.

It's not like it does it all the time. It's like a once a month type thing.
