Bluesky is a social network modelled on the old Twitter.
These are my cons and pros:
Cons
-Almost total left-wing/liberal echo chamber, with a handful of never-Trump Republicans and some apolitical users
-Far fewer users/less content than e. g. X
-Lots of prominent/interesting people ignore it and still use X
-If you piss off the woke zealots, they will form a mob and viciously attack you, including death threats (think old Twitter)
-Loser vibe (it is a bit like sitting down at the nerd table)
-When you scroll, you will frequently encounter hardcore naked gay dudes, sometimes even hardcore gay pornography (it is a major haven for LGBTQ+ since Musk bought Twitter)
-They for some reason (I think it is because there are many aspiring artists) really fucking hate AI. I have an AI avatar there, and users will frequently just reply with "AI avatar" as a way to discount my opinion
-They have so-called block lists, where people can mass block users considered "toxic", i. e. non-woke, so sometimes people you have never interacted with have already blocked you
-Too many users (in my opinion) disable replies to their posts. These are very woke people, and they fucking love censorship and hate disagreement
-Not a lot of great memeing. They are often a bit cringe
-Longer handles (e. g. @username. bsky. social)
Pros
-As a non-paying user, you will get WAY more interaction than on X. People will immediately start liking your posts and replying and stuff. And they are mostly friendly if you follow the laws of wokedom
-Don't think I have ever encountered a bot there. Unlike on X, which is packed with them
-You avoid 99% of the toxic far-right assholes on X
-Loads of really good artists sharing their art
-Your feed isn't full of Elon Musk's brain farts or sycophants
-No crypto bros
-Very few Israel-propagandists (although David Frum is there)
-Easy to get followers without paying
-You can self-host, although I am pretty ignorant on that
