Electric Vehicles (EVs) have gotten popular in the last few years. Tesla has dominated the market, but now faces competition. Just about every auto manufacturer now produces one or more EV models.

Let's see how popular they are.

FYI... I know someone who owns a Tesla, and also someone who owns an EV that's not Tesla.

I don't know anyone who owns a Tesla, but I know a couple people who own EVs.

I owned a Prius hybrid at one time but I'm back to a good ol', dependable, gas-powered car.

I wouldn't own an electric car. There's too much that can go wrong with computers and batteries. You can't just pull over and fill up your tank. And I hate SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) stuff.

To me, most Tesla owners have an air of pretentiousness. . . not all, but most.


I would like to see a comparison of the costs of owning, maintaining, and fueling a conventional car vs. hybrid vs. EV over the span of 200,000 miles.

@OlderAndWiser That would be an interesting comparison, especially taking into account that many US states are starting to charge EV owners a road use tax based on how many miles they drive. Since EVs don't use gasoline, they pay no gas tax, which is what states (and feds) use for road maintenance. (At least that's what it's supposed to be used for.)

I don’t own one or personally know of anyone who I’ve met that does.

For one it’s far too expensive, it’s unlikely I’ll meet someone who actually owns one because of the type of social class you’d have to be involved with to meet someone who can afford it.

It must be the fastest depreciating type of vehicle ever put on the market. It is already clear that, whenever there is a serious issue with the batteries after a few years, the cost of repair far exceeds the value of the car at that moment.

There's a guy driving around town with a Tesla that must have cost him a small fortune. He also has a sticker on the back of his Tesla, doing not so nice things to a graphic representation of Elon Musk. Go figure. I like people to be consequent in their choices.

Don't own one nor know anyone with one

My friend in exotic rentals looked into a Tesla, zero maintenance you can do without Tesla... ended up working out a year's rental would have to buy £150k and giving the client the car at the end

Everyone else has money for top shelf, no one is buying electric at that end unless they want the credentials for it

At the moment I own 2 ICE cars. EV's don't make sense where I live with current electric rates and gas prices. Also current EV technology and infrastructure isn't where it needs to be for an EV to be a 1 car solution.

Personally I don't, and never will own an EV... However two of our distant neighbours do... One I believe is a Tesla, but I've no idea about the other one.

Someone at my lpace of work has an EV, I don't know what kind it is and we aren't friends, but he has one.

Only people I know who drive EVs are those given company cars by their job. Not sure what kind they are but not teslas

I know two or three guys with Teslas. They don’t like Elon Musk, but are happy with their cars.
