24H2 Crippled My Laptop; What Else Can I Do To Boost Performance?

I already updated iGPU, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and dGPU drivers manually (some other drivers Windows updated them); disabled or at least forced many new processes and apps to run manually instead of automatic; and I'm considering to bypass Optimus by connecting an external monitor via HDMI so the iGPU will no longer bottleneck my laptop due to some system resources being given to it instead of my CPU. Sadly my gaming laptop is almost 6 years old and it started to degrade in performance a bit over a year ago, with the thermals suffering from age and heavy use, along with me switching from Windows 10 to 11 as the latter has more CPU overhead and isn't fully optimized for older chips like mine. I previously mitigated performance loss by re-applying thermal paste, undervolting and power limiting both CPU and iGPU (dGPU can't because Acer locked those at vBIOS level), and use a cooling pad that also elevates the PC; sadly now with 24H2 adding even more overhead, I have to do everything else I can to save it.

Honestly, what I would do is if you do a lot of gaming either buy a new laptop or figure out a way to downgrade back to Windows 10 because windows 11 is a nightmare especially if the CPU is not up to it. I have a gaming laptop with a 4050 and a i7 13620h And it’s super laggy my old desktop that is a 9900 KF system with a 2080TI still is far faster even just navigating the menus and it’s all Windows 10. I know that it’s a more powerful system, but it’s also older. Hope this helps best of luck.

The i7 13620H should technically be stronger, unless your i9 9900KF you overclocked and won silicon lottery for; luckily for me, I won it for my laptop otherwise I'd be even more crippled by 11

Although I've read how fucked Core 13th and 14th Gen are due to Intel not having proper QC for those lmao

Sadly Windows 10 is being discontinued next month and I ain't paying Microsoft for further security updates; Linux is a no-go due to compatibility issues with Nvidia

Definitely agree with you on the fact that the 2080 TI is far superior to the RTX 4050 especially the mobile variant. But as far as the CPU comparison, it doesn’t seem like the 13th gen is any better I don’t know if that’s due to Windows 11 being more overhead for the CPU or if it’s just like you said the quality control issues the only thing I can say it’s for sure. Better at is like compressing files like seven zip it’s a little bit faster at that and that’s not just down to the difference in SSD speeds because neither of them get anywhere close to saturating even older m.2 SSDs. I understand what you’re saying I wouldn’t pay them for further security updates either and yeah, the gaming situation with Linux it’s crazy right now especially with NVIDIA. i’ll be honest when I clicked the switch to another operating system thing that was kind of a miss click I think probably be best thing to do would be buying a new laptop, but I understand that it’s not always easy to just drop New money on a laptop.

Well for Nvidia, they only started to officially support Linux with their drivers beginning with Turing; Pascal (what I have) and older had limited to no support, so that's why I avoided it

I'm assuming your gaming laptop uses Optimus like mine right? That's basically Nvidia's term for the system that switches between iGPU and dGPU, but even when the dGPU is used the iGPU still technically is active. Basically for such laptops, the dGPU may render everything although it still has to pass them to the iGPU to display them. That obviously creates a ton of lag, especially for CPU bound programs, so bypassing Optimus by disabling MUX switch or connecting external monitor removes it. I naively assumed before GPU bound programs would benefit more, but ironically turns out CPU bound does as modern CPUs dedicate up to ⅓ of its die for the iGPU alone!
