What are some good things about Artificial Intelligence?

I have just read that 650,000 to 1 million jobs have been created by Artificial Intelligence. A lot more jobs have been created than have been lost.

Sigh... I tell you I'm a little burnt out on the topic bc I talk about it basically all week. Ethical compliance, regulation and governance, cognitive dissonance, blah blah blah.

The one good thing is not reading so many broken sentences anymore. And yet that's another pandora's box bc the authenticity of the source is called into question...

I am assigning a term paper in one of my courses this semester. I have not done it in a few years because the spelling and grammar was really bad and I used to get discouraged.
I am curious if the students will get Chat GPT to write the term paper for them.

When I need to brainstorm, it's good to help me come up with good ideas. It's also great at helping you get out your thoughts better and can be good for therapy tools. It's also good at finding good resources that may be more relevant and useful than a typical Google search.

most of what we hate from AI is only the part that generates "slop" for stupid consumerism... but there are a few things here and they in which they are just running tests over and over to an speed and efficiency that a human would take way too long to do

If you mean generative ai (chatgpt, grok, gemini, claude) there's not. Its been shown to delude people or intensify people's own narcisstic behavior as well hallucinate data. It also lowers brain activity leading to less actual critical thought.

Only things I can think of..
- You can get virtually any question about anything known to man answered immediately (with the fairly low but real chance of it being a convincing hallucination instead)
- You can use it to troubleshoot things, such as computer issues
- You can use it to make programs (or debug or enhance existing programs of yours or open source programs) many, many times more easily and quickly than you ever could have by yourself alone
- AI is a popular new conversation topic, it gives people something to talk about and even bond over ;d

Way back around 1969, we had a "future-looking" project in college. We had to create (conceptuality and with a model, if practical) and APSI - Artificially Produced Sustaining Intelligence, plus a mini-thesis (only about 30 pages or around 7500-10,000 words).

Yes, I did the project. I also created a scathing thesis about having man running the research rather than having the research running the men.

AI can be helpful to quickly locate data and other information about a topic, or to analyze complex data structures. But whatever AI tells us, it's important to verify what it says before using it.
