The original "Supercar" was a revolutionary, multi-environment vehicle capable of travelling on land (riding on a cushion of air) underwater, through the air and into space.

It was housed in a secret laboratory and desert base in Black Rock, Nevada, and can be seen on YouTube.

Elon Musk's redesigned Tesla Roadster has rocket thrusters that help the vehicle take off, flip and accelerate from 0 to 60mph in under a second, and is due to begin production in 2028.

The Tesla Roadster does not compare with the original Supercar, but technology needs to start somewhere.

Would you be interested in beating traffic jams and buying a Tesla in 2028?

It's not the answer because it still needs space to park, and that's a huge problem in dense cities. Also it's impossibly energy inefficient. What we need is convenient urban transportation, well maintained, like the London Underground and the Paris Metro. In Paris I can get to almost everywhere within 50km for 2.55 Euro. Why would I want to own a car, flying or not?

I suspect that the car we have all seen on TV , as amazing as it is, has a range of about 100 yards. When you think about it, we have a population of morons that cannot even drive a regular car without crashing. You take those same morons ant put them in a flying car it will be a horror show

How do you skip traffic jams with that ugly thing? Jump over 3 cars and save 5 seconds inside a 30 minute traffic jam?

The car is a gimmick car, much like any rare Ferrari. There will apparently be a version without the thrusters which is what most buyers will likely buy, and there will be a handful with all the thrusters that will be used much like a monster truck is used - for shows and demonstrations, not for commuting.

It's a halo car and a technology demonstrator, but the thruster version is expected to cost in the neighborhood of $2M, so they were never going to displace the Camry.

That said, the new motor and battery technology developed for the Roadster will flow down to the road cars before too long, and that's a great thing. Tesla's new motor is a tenth of the weight of the old ones and use no rare Earth minerals, which is a massive breakthrough that will have long-term advantages.

It's a $100 billion marketing ploy.

The target: Musk's plan is to convince Tesla shareholders to merge with SpaceX which will see stock held as part of an incentive package vest, netting Musk a cool $100 billion, to the detriment of other Tesla stockolders.
