Stephen Reviews: Carowinds Theme park (Charlotte, NC/SC)

Carowinds is a Theme park that is kinda what the name implies. It is straddled right on the North and South Carolina border. The overall theme is The Carolinas coming together as one state in this 400 acre theme park. I recently got a season pass to go there and I went on Easter Sunday. I am going to review some of the rides and go over some of the things I like and dislike about the park.

First of all I'm going to talk about the Roller Coasters. The park is famous for several Roller Coasters. The first of all is its biggest coaster Fury 325.

This rollercoaster has a drop of over 325 feet and speeds up to 95-105 mph. It is the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in the Southeast. It was named after the Charlotte Hornets basketball team and the revolutionary war nickname of Charlotte as The Hornets Nest. I rode this ride and it definitely gives a lot of air time as you feel like you're gonna come right out of your seat.

Next up is Intimidator. This coaster has a NASCAR theme. More specifically its themed after Dale Earnhardt who was nicknamed The Intimidator. The front of the cars even have the Chevrolet logo. This rollercoaster has a drop of over 230 feet with speeds up to 75-80 mph.

Other roller coasters here of note are: Afterburn which is a Suspended Coaster themed after Top Gun when the park was owned by Paramount. Carolina Cyclone which is a looping coaster. Flying Cobras which is a Boomerang coaster. Vortex A stand up Coaster. Hurler is a Wooden coaster themed after Wayne's World.

Other attractions include Camp Snoopy which is the Family Friendly area of the park. Carolina Goldrusher which is a Mine train coaster like Seven Dwarves Mine Train or Thunder Mountain Railway. Carolina Skytower gives you a 360 degree aerial view of the park as well as the Charlotte Skyline. Carolina Harbor waterpark with a abundance of waterslides and pools. There is also a Plants vs Zombies themed dark ride where you shoot plants or zombies depending on your team.

The park has several dining options such as Chick Fil A, Panda Express, Starbucks, and many others including alcohol serving areas. The food is quite pricey though as it is in most venues of entertainment. The parking is also pricey at $20 per car but free if you have a gold season pass. The rides are also not for everyone of size or height. I was able to ride all but 3 rides excluding the kiddie rides. There is also a onsite campground resort with a Marriott hotel coming in 2019.

I give Carowinds A solid A-. The Coasters are top notch, The Snoopy kids area is a good catch, the dining options are plentiful, Its a do it all in one day park, and the staff is pretty friendly for a bigger park. The only 2 things I think the park needs to work on is accommodating guests of bigger sizes and heights on all rides and maybe lower prices on their food and drink but any themepark or venue of size as such has pretty steep prices. Overall I highly recommend visiting.
