How dumb would it be to move to NYC or LA?

i live in a beautiful city in Colorado. just moved less than a year ago. i have issues with staying in one place. LA seems enticing with the beach and it might be easier to find a man there. having trouble meeting friends out here. with my job, i can choose anywhere to live. i think California would be next. NYC is close to home although i have a small family. a lot of people tell me not to do either though. thoughts?

LA is incredibly expensive and too many unsafe neighborhoods. Also huge homeless problem. But the weather is nice most of the time air pollution not withstanding. New York is similar except for the weather. LA is more spread out and doesn't have as good a transit system. New York is very vertical and has an amazing transit system and based on what I have heard it is safer these days. While LA has more entertainers per square mile than any other city New York probably has a vastly superior live entertainment scene. I live in Florida and if you like beaches I recommend you move here. It will be less expensive on the west coast of Florida than either NY or LA and we don't do winter here and we have the very best beaches in the country. Of course if you like an interesting variety of high quality food then NY has us beat hands down. If I want decent food I have to make it myself and have learned to be a pretty good cook as a result. A disadvantage of Florida is we have a high percentage of crazy people. But if you can live with that and beach is your number one motivation come to Florida.

I can't speak for New York, but you don't want to live in Los Angeles. There has been a mass exodus happening from California for a while now, and for very good reasons. It's a terrible place to live, it's incredibly expensive, taxes are insane, the politics are terrible, it's horribly managed, over regulated, over crowded and very unfriendly to business, which ultimately means very unfriendly to employees. I grew up in California and left as soon as I could. Never looked back.

I’d say visit before you make a choice, even if you can only go one time. You only get so much knowledge about a place through others, internet, etc. But you won’t really know until you go for yourself and can decide if you even like the vibe.
