Why do Canadians have a reputation of being polite when they’re actually really rude?

Okay, not all of them obviously, but I live in a Canadians snow bird state. I work at a store where Canadians frequent and can I say they are actually REALLY rude! I have only seen one customer from Canada who wasn’t rude and even my co workers agree. And I’ve met New Yorkers who weren’t as rude and Canadians were the only ones who were consistently inconsiderate or rude (we ALWAYS knew they were Canadian because either they made it known, or they were wearing clothing with Canada smeared all over it) are Canadians just rude in America or something? Because they’re absolute jerks.

THANK YOU! I got completely trashed online for mentioning it this, bit I've been to Canada 8 times and have met people from different parts of Canada. People from Quebec have always been really nice, but people from BC and Alberta are rude as fuck. I was little kid an Asian guy wouldn't let me take a shit in his gas station. I ended up going behind his building😂 Not to mention that they straight up discriminate against American people. They always change us more at tourist attractions, and it's so obvious when you watch their news channels that they hate Americans. Also, I don't know what moron always ranks Canada in the top 10 safest countries. I felt more unsafe in Vancouver than in any other American city. I was harassed my locals in broad daylight, my cousin has been beaten and robbed on several occasions and we had our car broken into and the police just said, "Welcome to Canada". One of our friends from WA was visiting my uncle and the locals saw his WA license plate and threw trash and tomatoes on his car. Then another time they wouldn't let him into the country because he got a citation from WA Fish and Game for not having his fishing license on him. People in Vancouver are so nervous, aggressive and impatient. I agree with you, I don't know where this stereotype comes from. I think Eastern Canadians are better, but everything west of Quebec is shit!

I do plan to visit Quebec City and the Maritime Provinces some day, I think those might be better. But everything west of Quebec isn't worth it's. It's basically an extension of the Midwest and Pacific Northwest. You don't even really feel you're in another country.

Also, apparently the locals have decided that it's illegal to film them in public spaces.

Well.. considering in tons of media like moves, tv shows and south park LOL and just talking online to people. Americans love to put us down and always have something to say about us... so yeah Canadians probably don't like Americans very much but I have never been rude to any that I have met... like the ones just across from us in Michigan actually seem nicer than some people here.. But really it is probably just the demographic you are dealing with. If its lots of middle class white people they tend to be rude as fuck I would love to just beat them so they learn their place... but what can you do if you don't want a criminal record... but online I am an absolute douche bag to everyone because I hate people and its funny lol

Well I mean you all don’t stray too far from the stereotypes lol but I understand. Americans in general aren’t overall rude unless you provoke them but Canadians seem to be very blunt and assertive either way. Seems like a “you’re gonna respekt meh Canada!!!1” tantrum every time they come into the store when in general we think it’s cool they’re from Canada lol.

There are jerks everywhere. Generally speaking Canadians are nice, but you'll certainly find a few who are not. The American people have their fair share of jerks too. Generalizations usually don't hold up if you start looking too closely.

I’ve talked to MULTIPLE people about Canadians being incredibly rude, including other Canadians and I never said they ALL were if you even bothered reading my first sentence. Now please be gone.

Just inconsiderate, snappy and mean.. pretentious. Like a Karen, but 2x worse with no filter. It’s just noticeable when dealing with other Americans too because most other Americans aren’t really snappy unless you do something they don’t like when it comes to working retail.. so I know it isn’t just me since my coworkers say the same. The only guy who wasn’t rude was a younger guy so maybe it’s just the older Canadians.
