What do Texans think of Austin? Is the place woke/degenerate/hostile to conservatives? Are there actually traditional women there? Is it worth going?

I really feel as though I just do not want to go but I have this friend that won’t let up about it and keeps trying to pressure me into going.

It makes me feel kinda bad though but I almost feel as though I just can’t trust the dude enough. Even though its important to him that I go, which does make me feel kinda guilty but still.

He’s saying it’ll all be great but in my experience in all the times my gut instict has told me something, I’ve been correct. I’ve had all sorts of friends tell me things before like “oh you’ll like it, you’ll be glad you listened to me”, and they’ve ALWAYS been wrong.

Regardless though, I’ve read the news about Austin and the city itself is just f*cking retarted.

They literally voted a couple years ago to slash their Police budget by 1/3 and cops are literally retiring from the force because they’re just overwhelmed with calls and not being supported.

Nevermind the fact that my friend said “we can go to sixth street” and I literally typed “sixth street” on youtube and all that came up was all these videos about sixth street being dangerous and the rise in crime.

I’m an introvert anyway and I just don’t want to visit a place over spring break that’s most likely just going to be a loud party scene crowded with college students acting drunk, immature and stupid.

My parents have a family vacation planned for Ireland anyway. I’d kinda prefer to just chill and relax for a week in someplace quiet. Nevermind visiting Europe for the first time of my life.

Anyway, I’d be happy to visit Texas in the future, but I just feel as though Austin isn’t a place I’d want to go.

So how do I tell my friend “FCK NO I’M NOT GOING” in the nicest possible way?

And I’m just really confused too because it sounds like a crock of shit to me but he said the women there are “very traditional” and entirely different from the ones at my University.

Even though I’ve seen pictures of them online and they kinda just look like skanks and party girls.

Texan here. I ABSOLUTELY hated Texas and the US in general. I prefer to travel abroad tbh. Then I took my first camping trip to Big Bend national park in West Texas that I swear I've never been somewhere so epic in my whole life. (Dark sky certified, one of the best places to see the stars). If you're into Western, cowboys, Red dead redemption you absolutely must go. I took a horse tour across the Chihuahuan desert and it was so epic. If there is any way you can combine Big Bend into the trip you won't regret it.

However if you're just sticking to Austin... man I hated the place! I walked down 6th st and it was infested with homeless and people laying on the streets (might be dead who knows). It's mostly a party town for college kids, live music and expensive food. The tacos are not good by the way.

I recommend doing a little road trip around Hill country (actually a really pretty area full of quaint towns) go to Canyon lake, twisted sisters, go tubing down the river, visit the State parks and check out San Antonio. Also try the BBQ, Mexican food, and go to a Bucees (MUST DO).

Austin honestly doesn’t sound all that good but Big Bend seems great.

For winter break I was thinking of going there and also trying to visit Guadeloupe Mountains National Park as well

I just really like the idea of meeting country people and I heard West Texas has a lot of ghost towns as well.

One even sold for $150,000 a couple months ago, called Lobo

Winter is the best time to go to Big bend in my opinion. Prepare for hot days and cold nights, book a tipi, casita or bubble at Terlingua ghost town (next to Big Bend) and make a campfire. Heck you can even cross into Mexico for a day trip (Boquillas del Carmen) you cross the river and go into town by horse or donkey. (Get there early because it gets busy and limited parking on weekends).

I would go there instead of Guadalupe mountains for sure.

Also the hot springs as well I’ve heard. But I’m super into ghost towns and I’ve heard west Texas has the highest concentration of ghost towns of any region of the country. Lol

I lived very close to Austin for 3 years. Visited every weekend. It was where i shopped and stuff. It's very city and a party town but with a country feel. 6th street everyone goes to get blackout drunk. It wasn't fun in my opinion

Couldn't tell ya, I've never been west of Chicago! But, I have cousins that live in San Antonio and 2nd cousins that were born in Lubbock and I've never heard a bad word from any of them about it.
