Don’t you feel scared when you go camping in bear habitats?

Not at all. Just do you due diligence and keep your bear spray nearby.

But I remember when I was working on my uncle's property in BC. I walked around the corner of his house with a chainsaw, saw a black bear and dropped my chainsaw. I was frozen in shock. The bear got up on it's hind legs (it looked fucking tall) and then started running away breaking little trees down on its path. Birds came out of no where and flew off from one focal point. It was a pretty strange scenario but makes for a good story. But I handled it very poorly.

Another story is on that same property, apparently me and the other workers got up one morning and saw a steel bear-proof garbage bin was ripped open by the claw of what could only be a grizzly bear. Just made us more wary of the area. I've had a few nightmares of a couple grizzly bears chasing me in the forest after that 😂

Despite what I say, I'd still camp in those areas. It's not a big deal. And there's the saying... "If it's black, fight back. If it's brown, lay down. If it's white, good night." It makes you remember which bears are more of a threat.

Not at all. Where I camp, bears are everywhere. Just keep your food put away and sealed and garbage in the bear proof bins and should not have a problem. They typically do not bother you.

Once while camping, I had a bear come to my campsite just as I was about to start cooking breakfast. I put the food away and sat I'm my chair with my coffee and we watched each other for a while and then he moved on to the next campsite. He was curious and I didn't do anything that made him feel threatened.

I love being up close and personal with wildlife. I have had a skunk walk under my chair and fed wild deer right out of my hand.

I went camping in North Carolina once and it's supposedly known for black bears. I was definitely nervous

I never used to be but there are a lot more bears around now. Ivwould make sure my car is handy and the doors are unlocked.

Camping can be a lot of fun. Always to remember to use the safety triangle. Keep your food at one point away from where you sleep and where your trash is kept. Your trash is at the other corner, along with any human waste (toilet). Your tent is in its own corner. What this does is makes sure that if a bear does come into your camp site, they will be drawn away from where you are sleeping.

The majority of the people who have been doing this for a while will take all their gear and food, and put them up a tree using ropes to keep them away from animals. They do not put them up the same tree, they are spread apart.

Everything is done in order to be safe and have a good time in nature.

I'm less worried than I probably should be. No bears round here, but there are leopards, baboons and cobras locally and a bit further up country you're into lion, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, etc. boars and warthog are more dangerous than people realise too.

We don't have bears in Kansas what you have to look out for here is coyote packs and mountain lions/cougars as well as water moccasins and rattle snakes.

You should always be cautious when out in the wilderness though no matter where you are. And if you ever hear the outside go dead quite you should leave that area immediately.

I'm not scared when I go camping... I take appropriate precautions for safety... mine and others. No matter where you go, there may be animal predators that you need to be careful around.

Kind of an unrelatable problem, since I'm British and the most dangerous thing in the woods here are territorial red deer. I've just straight up slept up trees before, without the slightest hint of fear for my safety.

Nope. I did a several week camping trip in bear country woke up to a bear hanging out around the campsite. Threw him a fish and told him to take it and scoot. He did in fact take it and scoot

Not usually. I've always pitched at campsites where they are usually good at fencing their properties. Take bear mace and camp with multiple people. Use a camper and not a tent.

Not really. Of all the horrible things that could go wrong, mauled by a bear is low on my list, and I have come across many, albeit from a safe distance or in a vehicle.

Georgia has black, not brown, bears. I have been camping in bear country and as long as you take proper precautions, you need not worry.

I would be super careful if I knew bears were around. Lots of cool options these days like hammocks hung from a tree - 20+ft off the ground. And always keep your food stored off the ground in a tree 50+ meters away from the campground.

I use to do it all the time. Never an issue as long as you followed the rules. But now we have people beating them into campgrounds so the can see them, and it's causing problems. A few campgrounds have been shit down as a result.
