What is a city or state that you thought was overrated when you visited it relative to public perception?

California. We honeymooned there.

San Francisco was horrible. There was garbage in the streets. Homeless everywhere. People were crapping and pissing on the streets in public. Protests everywhere. Went in to wallmart to buy new underwear and nearly got caught up in a shoplifting 80 person shoplifting spree as they charged out the door with as much as they could carry.

L. A I didn't feel safe in. We were nearly mugged one time and car jacked another time. Protests everywhere. Junkies and homeless everywhere. Then there were all these very pretentious white people who clearly were born with money taking all this woke nonsense. There were weirdos on the beach and human poo 💩 California should be paradise.

We've been in texas, colarado, west Virginia, florida, tennesse and Georgia since and they were great. Atlanta city was awesome, id love to live there.

I feel like any place will have certain spots worth visiting and where you will genuinely have a great time, but if you take it a city or state as a whole then it will probably not live up to your expectations because you only heard about the hype before going there, and there's a difference between the fantasy of it and the reality. These are all normal places where people live their day to day after all.

Honorable mention: Paris — beautiful, but crowded, pricey, and not always the “romantic dream” sold in movies. 🗼👀

Many foreigners want to visit Berlin and talk about all the techno clubs and whatnot. To me, it's a sprawled out dirty city full of dogshit, graffiti, drug addicts and antisocial people.
