Could Antarctica hide unknown life—or signs of another civilization?

[Melody90]

Do you believe there's more to that mysterious continent than we know? Could there be undiscovered life forms hidden beneath its ice, or perhaps even signs of another civilisation? Do you believe we're truly alone on Earth?

[purplepoppy]

Antarctica is actually one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. There's a huge amount of marine life under the ice. What creates the diversity is icebergs, they scour the seafloor wiping it clean so no one species can outcompete everything else.

They discover new species there on a regular basis.

[OneViewpoint]

They've already found life in the ice and in lakes of liquid water below the ice. It's very basic life forms but stuff can live there. And they've also found fossilized life from other periods when the poles weren't buried under miles of ice. Civilization? Doubtful. Unless you count leopard seals and penguins.

There could certainly be undiscovered species. I expect there are many undiscovered species in the world, particularly in the deep sea. I don't know what you mean by "undiscovered life forms".

[Melody90]

I meant other civilisations.

[Anonymous]

There are likely mirco organisms under the ice we have not discovered. Civilisation? No...

[Melody90]

Thank you

Highly unlikely. According to scientists Antarctica has been frozen 34 million years.

[Paige2006]

I guess they could but I don't know why they would.

if you mean alien stuff... no

[KostasKouvalis]

I believe yes. It wasn't always cold
