The Young Elites Series: Book 3 Review

This is the last and final book for this series! I loved reading this series so much. I wrote reviews that said the previous 2 books of this trilogy were awesome...I did really like this book, but it was disappointing to me. Not just because the series ended, but the plot...the characters...everything was so different from what I had been expecting. So I didn't like this book overall because:

The Characters Changed...

I loved the main characters so much. They were fantastic. Now in this book, everyone just did a complete 180 to me. The characters I loved...their personalities stayed the same, but their storylines drastically changed. It's hard to describe without spoiling anything, but I really didn't like the scenes they were in. Some scenes felt too used before, like classic scenes that were used in other books.

The other 2 books in this series didn't have many classical moments which is why I loved them so much. This book only has a few scenes like this from my perspective, but they were all with really key characters, so I felt like they had a huge impact. The expectedness of the scenes and the simple endings, made the characters not feel so unique anymore. Since this book was the last debut for some, I was really disappointed.

The characters also...they didn't end up like how I expected. I was shocked by the ones that were killed off. I think the characters that survived in the ending were the most capable ones to deal with what happened in the ending. I had loved their personalities and had thought they'd be great together...But not like this. I was so shocked, especially by how Adelina ended up, although I liked the epilogue. So although I feel like some scenes didn't fit the atmosphere of the series, the author is definitely unpredictable with how she handles her plot.

The Plot Wasn't As Sinister

I mean, it was sinister! But not in the way I'd thought it'd be. The other 2 books showed how Adelina and The Young Elites impacted the world. The beginning of this book does that too, but the rest shows how they impacted themselves more than anyone else. And the world too, in a more offhanded way. But the most damage is done to The Young Elites, and the book focuses less and less on the world and more solely on them. During this series, the Elites' effect on the world was always a huge part of the main plot. They were the most powerful characters, and Adelina was one of the best and strongest. In this book, that all flips, and that totally changed the tone of the series to me.

What I Really Liked About The Book

What I loved about the book though, were the first few opening chapters. This kind of writing...it was just awesome. it was like Adelina was the ultimate battle queen. I hadn't expected that, but she had some longevity, and did manage to finish her original plans. She also accomplished her original goals. I thought the book would open with her having failed in some way. But no...she really doesn't, she shines in her evil ways, until...I can't spoil it!

I mostly disliked the ending, but what I did like was that Marie Lu but a cool spin on it. She made it so that almost everyone stopped suffering, including the rest of the world. So if you like reading a series where evil doesn't triumph after all, then read this book! I do personally wish that Adelina had won instead of being corrupted, but...I think the ending worked out pretty well. And the title is more fitting for this book than I ever thought it would be.
