Hey, you chose to come on here lol. I didn't force you. You wasted your own time sweetie. If you're so concerned about time, stop coming back to my Take lol
I read your take. I think show is a good way to show some differences, issues and struggles with the race relations. With that said, the label you put on anything (product, movie, show, etc) does have a quick emotional impact. People do judge a book by it's cover. That's just how it is.
There were been so many other ways to start a title of a show other than "dear white people". I feel that was done on purpose to create more controversy and therefore more publicity and viewership.
If reminders of Confederate history weren't being vandalized or destroyed the way ISIS destroys anything that isn't itself, the present backlash would not exist.
@JohnSmith627 To be they are not. Its all what you want to say when you say words like that. What you want to express. We are different. But thats not racism.
The title is meant to be provocative and ancillary (I think). You can't then be confused why people are upset about it. I doubt that a show would get aired with the title "dear black folk, it's not about you." But anyway, that's just my two cents.
Good take.. It was very well written, and had many good points... Although I was spoiled cause I didn't finish the show, but you are right in what you say.. Although there are some things that I was kinda like " eeehh".. But good take!
Great post, thanks for this! So many people have been going off about this show and "reverse racism"-- and like you said, without having even seen it! You made a lot of really great points, nice work on this!
can't read all this trash, too wordy. When i hear dear white people i hear "dear fuckers" thats how its intended. Rationalize the bs how ever you so choose and thatll be bs too. So what some white stylist ask your ethnicity. I have a friend with a disability that gets the same ignorant comments everywhere she goes. Tough shit, thats life who cares.
Well, you didn't read all of it and I don't really argue with ignorance so I guess your opinion is your opinion. You can't call something that you know nothing about trash. That makes you look closed minded.
Yea well wgen i read 12 paragraphs of bullshit id say thats a good indication that there is more of that in the following. If i were close minded i wouldn't have read as far as i did
No, if you weren't closed minded, you would have read all of it. But that's okay. The Take wasn't meant to please anyone and I knew it'd make some people mad and I knew most people wouldn't read all of it. So it's not a surprise that you didn't which is why you didn't get to what the show was actually about. But thanks for your comment, even if it is misinformed.
That's true. It kind of goes away after episode 3 but the second episode definitely had too much. I didn't need to see that girl's va jay jay all up close and personal like that lol
@JDavid25 I hate sex scenes because about 90% of them are unnecessary. Like I think most of the ones in this series were not necessary at all to help further the story.
@Elarra.. Exactly.. They should have done like the movie.. LOL.. The movie had sexual references, but it ain't run along the prolong sex scene path.. They just seem to be there because the show runners wanted some sexy scenes.. LOL..
No. Using the word 'white' in describing someone doesn't necessarily make it racist. The insult in that phrase isn't white, it's 'bitch' because that word can be used to describe anyone of any color. They also used a rap song in there with the 'n' word in it and white person said it while singing to the song. That wasn't racist either because he was singing to a song.
this show is in netflix? I heard a lot of hate on it, just based on its title. And the hate comes from the sect of those who didn't believe in change, and whose pocket change have been picked and used for other people or persons gain.
So whats your point? Its a stupid tv show, with a racist undertone to get ratings and cause controversy. With that being said, why would you take anything you see on TV seriously? Its called the idiot box for a reason.
You may know the target audience, but you certainly don't know that the show is stupid and has racist undertones. You can assume that all you want, but your opinion means nothing if you haven't actually watched the show for yourself.
"Dear White People: It's Not [All] About You" right off the bat the title has rascist overtones. How does 'Dear BLACK People: It's Not [All] About You' sound?
How does it sound? What if there was a show with a similar title. I'm sorry but this is the age of equality and it's not PC to offend people with this sort of racism.

Yeah... I stopped reading at ''the name isn't racist''.
Ignorance is bliss I guess
And so is not wasting my time.
Hey, you chose to come on here lol. I didn't force you. You wasted your own time sweetie. If you're so concerned about time, stop coming back to my Take lol
Technically i'm not coming back at all. You continuing to respond to me is lighting up the little bell in the top corner of my screen.
Again, not forcing you to answer me lol.
And i'm not forcing you either.
I'm not the one complaining about wasting time lol. It's my Take, remember? Here, let me help you free up your time since you can't do it yourself.
Told ya!
same, upvote for you!

There are no racist words, shows or anything, only racist minds.
That is so true.
So "nigger", "wetback", and "gook" aren't racist words?
So "Birth of a Nation" wasn't a racist film?
@JohnSmith627 To be they are not. Its all what you want to say when you say words like that. What you want to express. We are different. But thats not racism.

What ev racist girl
I think the title achieved what it was intended to achieve... exposure
Humans are quite predictable
I saw the first 2 episodes and it was too much sex.
Yeah, that kinda threw me out of it too.. LOL..
@JDavid25 my family thought I was watching porn :/
That's true. It kind of goes away after episode 3 but the second episode definitely had too much. I didn't need to see that girl's va jay jay all up close and personal like that lol
Yeah, well, you never got to the third episode which, basically was probably the most sexual episode of the season.. LOL.. In more ways than one..
@JDavid25 Was the third episode the one with Lionel? I thought that was episode 2.
@Elarra, that was the second episode? Aw yeaah, and right? That was definitely unnecessary.. And kind surprised me.. LOL..
You right, it was the second.. Cause the third one was about Troy..
Well, if it tones down then I'll watch it lol
Call me overly American, but I'm comfortable with violent scenes in shows, not nudity and sex though.
Well, I ain't uncomfortable with sex scenes, it's just that they are annoying, and take me out of the character development sometimes.. LOL..
@JDavid25 I hate sex scenes because about 90% of them are unnecessary. Like I think most of the ones in this series were not necessary at all to help further the story.
@JDavid25 true lol
@Elarra.. Exactly.. They should have done like the movie.. LOL.. The movie had sexual references, but it ain't run along the prolong sex scene path.. They just seem to be there because the show runners wanted some sexy scenes.. LOL..
I saw that title on the Netflix banner, haven't watched it yet. Still a handful of shows I need to get started on.
I haven't seen it
But I heard one thing only... we were called white bitches
That isn't racist?
I don't reply wanna fight lol since I haven't seen it tbh
Really*
We don't have to fight. I was just answering your question lol
Good read and the show sounds interesting, everything doesn't have to be bad
I haven't seen it.
But I've read a bit about it.
And I'd like to see it if I get time.
Appreciated the details.
this show is in netflix? I heard a lot of hate on it, just based on its title. And the hate comes from the sect of those who didn't believe in change, and whose pocket change have been picked and used for other people or persons gain.
I'm white and people always ask me what I am.
Jeez. Sorry for being white.
So whats your point? Its a stupid tv show, with a racist undertone to get ratings and cause controversy. With that being said, why would you take anything you see on TV seriously? Its called the idiot box for a reason.
First of all, have you actually watched the show? And secondly, TV shows aren't incapable of having meaningful content just because they're TV shows.
@cipher42 Why would i watch that race bait shit?
So no, you haven't. Which means you have no right to comment on it.
@cipher42 yes, you watched a t. v. show now you're an expert on racism. You are so enlightened please teach me... lmao
No, I watched the TV show so I have a right to comment on that TV show. You did not watch said TV show and thus have no such right to comment on it.
@cipher42 i dont have to eat my shit to know it taste like shit. With a title like dear white people, i know exactly who the target audience is.
You may know the target audience, but you certainly don't know that the show is stupid and has racist undertones. You can assume that all you want, but your opinion means nothing if you haven't actually watched the show for yourself.
@cipher42 go make me a sandwich
So basically you have no counterargument so you're resorting to meaningless sexist retorts. Gotcha.
@cipher42 shhhhh
Okee, Imma go now since apparently you've run out of meaningful arguments. Thanks for proving me right I guess.
@cipher42 whatever your pretty little head wants to believe bby
I should watch this show, might just do it now. Thanks 😁
Omg I love this. @Elarra thank you for posting this, I feel the exact same way.
If it shows certain races in a negative light and inferior to another then it's racist.
Which it didn't do so by your own account it's not racist.
So it shows people of all races equally good and bad?
Not all races because the focus is white and black people but it shows the good things as well as what needs to be improved between them.
So other races are marginalised is what your saying. How does insulting someone based on their race daily help improve things?
I don't understand why you are asking that question. What's that have to do with the show or the Take?
"Dear White People: It's Not [All] About You" right off the bat the title has rascist overtones.
How does 'Dear BLACK People: It's Not [All] About You' sound?
Honestly, it sounds dumb since the show I'm addressing is called 'Dear White People' lol. Why would I then title it 'Dear Black People'?
How does it sound? What if there was a show with a similar title. I'm sorry but this is the age of equality and it's not PC to offend people with this sort of racism.
I already answered the question at the end of the Take lol. Why are you asking questions that I've already answered?
Exactly practice what you preach lol
I haven't preached anything lol
