This is a good piece, man. I have seen people doing exactly what you stated here. Very similar to what happened with Japanese Americans back during WWII.

I don’t know, man. Maybe when we see some foreigner calling our entire society idiotic because they had a bad interaction over their home country trying to start a global war and threatening nukes, we tend to not be super friendly towards that person. Maybe understand that Russia is kind of public enemy number one right now and lay off the Russian pride for a few months if you don’t want to hear our opinions about it.
It's not ok for them for call your society idiotic based on one interaction, but it is ok for you to judge them entirely on the actions of a country they have no say in the actions of. Makes total sense.

Well, that is simply not true. Most of Europe disagreed with us over the Iraq war. That is an actual substantive issue. Europe disagreed with us over climate change, the NATO alliance, etc. Those are actual things can be be discussed.

I am pretty certain I have traveled more than you. If you ever wish to leave the protective cover of the anonymous internet, I can show you just how much I have traveled. In fact, I practically lived in Paris for months on an integration project.
After that, I traveled to the Netherlands, Turkey, the UK, Italy, Latvia, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Austria. . . and that's just off the top of my head.

So you were in Paris and you met loads of French folks hating you because you were not American?
Let me give you an illustration.
In my first stay in France I was there for a month. And I was working this project with a few different teams. I was based out of Chicago at the time. But there were teams from New York and from London also. I had to work with Project Manager from New York. A woman, who had not been out of the country before. We had totally different experiences. I hung out with the English guys and I got some excellent advice. They told me, do whatever I could to attempt to speak French. Even if it was just hello and thank you. She did not get such advice.
So when we would go out, because you know. . I was trying to hit it. We would have different responses to our attempts to ask for directions, get service or get someone's attention. She would just ask in English and folks would be rude to her. Then I would ask in broken French and folks were really nice.
Maybe that's your issue, when you visit Paris. Try it out.

@OpenClose Yeah, I only know of one shooting at a McDonalds in Germany. And that was by a man with a Muslim background. He wasn't an ethnic German. I have been so many places in Europe, I have basically lived there for months at a time because of consulting projects. And I can count my negative experiences on one hand.
But I am not like the folks in this thread. I don't beat people over the head with my politics. I don't talk negatively about other cultures. I don't brag about how much better America is than their country. A lot of folks here have some serious issues. So I could definitely see them running into problems in other societies, because they don't seem to have much respect for experiences outside of their own.
But in most of my travels folks have gone out of their way to help me.
That's why I travel, in the first place.
