It's crazy to lose one's life for something like a false bill. Wow. I've had a couple of false bills I got back and used. I didn't know. I consider myself lucky if that is all it takes to get you killed these days.

According to the police, he was resisting arrest. Nobody really knows because the full video was never released. Everyone just assumes they're lying and he killed him because he's racist. Which is an extreme assumption but is what people believe. You can see in the few seconds of video he appears to be arguing with the cop.

Even IF he resisted arrest initially, they had him cuffed, he said he couldn't breathe 15 times. Not acceptable.

Again nobody knows what happened before or after what the video shows. Resisting arrest is extremely stupid especially given the nature the cops. Nobody is saying it's right but you can't really place your hand in fire and expect not to be burned either.

It doesn't matter what happened before. He was detained, once a man is cuffed he is supposed to go into the car, not have his neck knelt on (which they were trained not to do) for a few minutes.
He wouldn't even check his pulse when paramedics asked him to.

Well try fucking with a snake and then justifying that it shouldn't have bit you afterwards. Stupid of course. Now the information comes out that the two guys knew each other before this day transpired which adds a whole extra question of what happened before that day. Personally I don't care, it's just one of 7 billion people that will die.

I believe that it’s sad that to get America’s attention we had to have these kind of protests. If anything I think this should’ve happened sooner. You brought us over here as slaves and you planted a seed. Now the tree is here and it’s bearing fruit. The fruit won’t be good because the seed wasn’t good. So it’s like a ticking time bomb because it’s going to get a lot worse if you don’t start listening soon.

Looking at it from the outside the protest about his death has been used by a section of American society as an excuse to loot and rampage. I've travelled and worked in America and it mostly isn't like that.

Oh, I see. You're saying you think he did it on purpose, right? It's a very real possibility but considering that kneeling on the back of someone who is resisting arrest is a tactic often taken by police officers, this definitely seems more like a very bad placement of his knee, not a "I'm deliberately going to kill this man in front of others in broad daylight."

      Reply
    • Ellie-V

They did not resist arrest at any point. And when someone is blocking your ability to breathe, your body will naturally make attempts to escape or defend itself. Wanting to breathe isn’t resisting authority, that’s just survival.
If the man had been violent or attempted to flee from the officer, then there is room to call this a mistake. However, that did not happen at all and there is camera proof.

So I’m just wondering where the “oops my bad” comes in. They weren’t threatened in any way yet proceeded to practice a lethal chokehold, even after the person made it clear that they were in pain and had trouble breathing.

I haven't seen the footage, you may be correct. So I'd like to see this footage that you're referring to, though I'd be surprised if you could show me footage of the man being approached, ordered and/or wrestled to the ground, then the police officer kneeling on his neck without and sort of resistance prior to the kneeling on the neck. But even if you can, if the police believe they're dealing with a serious criminal and/or a person deemed potentially armed and dangerous (like a serial killer or someone who matches the description of a recent, nearby armed robbery) then the police can and will act with force (within reason, of course) to ensure that there will be the least amount of harmful retaliation that could come from that person possible. But to clarify, and it's rather silly that I have to, I am not saying that kneeling on the man's neck was a proper response, it wasn't. If anything kneeling on his back like police officers are trained to do would be a proper response. So please, link me footage that doesn't leave anything out-of-frame, both in the literal sense and in the sense of time, that being footage that includes him being approached, as footage that doesn't include that and simply cuts mid-arrest could easily leave out the part in which he could have resisted arrest.

And the "oops my bad," which is a very deceptive way to put it, you're clearly trying to twist my stance into a "smack on the wrist" instead of the "very serious mistake" that I've already regarded it as, is when the officer literally suffocated him, that should be fairly straightforward. Lastly, "I can't breathe" or "you're hurting me" is something that is very, very, very frequently said, untruthfully, by people being arrested. They want to say things as such so they have more ammunition in the courtroom to potentially (and nearly always to no avail) get away punishment-free from the crime they commited. You can see this on nearly every episode of the show/series "Cops" and in these episodes you can see the, pardon my French, blatant bullshit. And when the people continuously cry wolf, people stop listening. Unfortunately, this case was by no means bullshit. Lastly, I believe all of this discussing is rather pointless considering the fact that even if you can show me footage as such, we both clearly agree that this incident should not have ended that man's life.

You don't have to be armed to be forceably detained. You have to resist arrest or be suspected to be dangerous. And I've personally seen videos where bystanders were begging and literally crying, asking for the cops to stop what they're doing because they're frightened and scared and the bystanders were being dramatic, exaggeratory, and overreacting. In this case where the man died, clearly it was warranted. But your claim that the presence of a plea to stop is evidence that the act in question is unmerited simply doesn't hold true. And unless you mean to say he deliberately meant to suffocate the man to death, this is manslaughter, not murder.

The man was being arrested for accusations of counterfeit. And then these completely submitted to the cop. Nothing about this man was threatening enough to put him in the ground in the first place. That was completely unwarranted.
And no I am not going to link you any evidence because it is available for you to search on your own and also it’s pretty clear you didn’t bother to get the truth yourself anyway. So yeah you are absolutely right on that one. I have nothing to present to you. It’s not my responsibility to educate you. You really should have done that yourself before trying to form an opinion on a subject you’re visibly ignorant about, no offense.

I don’t believe that the cop meant to kill him at first. But he certainly intended harm and was certainly comfortable with the idea or the possible of killing that person as the man expressed his discomfort while the people who watched were frightened and angry.
I don’t believe you’re thinking of this as just something worth a slap on the wrist.
However, calling this a mistake exempts him from any malicious behavior.

You don’t put your neck on an unthreatening suspect for some minutes at a time without actively trying to hurt that person.
They know that it’s a little dangerous to have someone cuffed and laying on their front because for most that’s enough to crush someone’s diaphragm. And to continue suffocate them knowing that information with no visible or verbal threats to justify it, it is intentional. That is murder not manslaughter.

My point is you are either ill informed or making excuses to absolve the cop if *some* responsibility.
It could be both but all I know is that the first one is definitely the case. And because you expect me to enlighten you, I guess you’re not going to go out of your way to enlighten yourself.
But you’re assuming that the man was dangerous enough to be dealt with in the manner that he was. Being forcibly detained is not the issue.
Taking extra steps to hurt someone is the issue.
And to call it a mistake excuses clear murder.
To call it a mistake is ignorant and tone deaf and I encourage you to look up the public video footage yourself so that maybe next time you decide to speak on something similar to this, you have actual legs to stand on with a well rounded view.

Thank you for the conversation, this was nice ☺️

Well you said that there is "camera proof" that he was not "violent" nor "attempted to flee from the officer." Now, this isn't my first rodeo. I can't tell you how many times someone has claimed similar things only for it to be revealed to be untrue. So I've stopped wasting my time and simply ask a simple request for people to "provide me with the link" and if the person claimed the evidence is there, they must have seen it, and if they've seen it, they likely know where it is or they can search their history to find it, while I'd have to go through the plethora of videos that I'd be willing to bet is unlikely to show the full incident. But for you, and simply to make a point, I will search google and watch videos so that I have actually tried to "get the truth," myself (though, let's be real, if several people whose judgement and competence you trust have told you something, you'll generally believe them if what they say is within the confines of reason, you act as though I'm commenting on a topic of which I've heard nothing about) and demonstrate to you that finding these allegedly sufficient videos that you've claimed are there is not as simple or quick as you might believe.

So, when you look up on Google "Floyd full video" (and you can cross reference this by
Googling this, yourself, to ensure that i'm telling the truth, you can even watch the videos yourself and compare them to what I've said about the video if you truly don't trust me) the first thing that pops up is "New video appears to show three police officers kneeling on George Floyd" (https://www. cnn. com/2020/05/29/us/george-floyd-new-video-officers-kneel-trnd/index. html) and the only video presented in this article is a combination of several videos, most of which or videos of the actual occurence, but also includes some TV personnel offering their take on the incident. The footage of the actual incident shows three different videos. 1. A video that was taken on the sidewalk directly next to the incident, and this video begins with the officer already planting his knee on Floyd's neck, so the alleged resistance of arrest has already occurred at this point, so this video is insufficient proof that resistance of arrest did not occur.

(Continued below to avoid character limit)

      2. A video taken across the street that shows three officers kneeling on or next to (presumably, it's difficult to see as the video was taken from a distance, at least the one kneeling on his neck but most likely all three kneeling officers having a knee planted somewhere on his body) floyd, and this video also begins with the officers already kneeling on him, so this, too, is insufficient as the alleged resistance had already occurred. 3. This is the Dragon Wok restaurant's security camera footage. It begins with floyd being escorted out of his car but he's already handcuffed, so some extent of arrest/detainment had already occured, so this, too, does not provide the full picture, but if I had to use my best judgement, based on Floyd's demeanor and the cop's demeanor, I'd say the alleged resistance had not occurred yet, as they both seem to be calm and cooperative (of which does not prove that cooperation and compliance remained throughout the entirety of his arrest). This video ends by showing the officers escorting him elsewhere, but ends before they take any more than 6 steps, so you don't get to see where they're going. So, presumably, the resistance of arrest occurred after they began escorting him, and before the video where the officer had his knee on Floyd's neck. And needless to say, a video that shows someone not doing something, does not prove that they didn't do that thing, it only proves that they didn't do that thing at the time of that video.

So that is the first link from Google, the second link is "Surveillance video does not support police claims that George Floyd resisted arrest" (https://www. cnn. com/2020/05/28/us/video-george-floyd-contradict-resist-trnd/index. html) and this video has people talking about the incident, and the Dragon Wok restaurant footage, but it shows even less of the footage than the first link did, so there's nothing to add or say about this one. However, due to this title, I figured I'd go on youtube to find this footage hopefully uncut, so I searched YouTube for "Dragon Wok full restaurant video" and the first video to show up is "Surveillance Video Shows George Floyd Before Killing" by the channel "TMZLive" (https://youtu. be/t0Un-7wj9OI) and this video has TV personnel, some of George's family members, and George's family's lawyer giving their take on the matter, and it does provide the Dragon Wok's restaurant footage, and we get to see more than we saw in the first two links provided by Google, but unfortunately the only additional thing we see is the officers walking him across the street, of which the video ends after that, so we only got to see about 5 more second of footage (this footage was also cut, showing them escorting him to the left, then cutting to them as they're walking across the street, but I assume that is simply because there was a period of uneventful time before they crossed the street when they were waiting for the crosswalk or something).

Also, at 2:50 (which comes directly after the footage of the officers taking George across the street ends) one of the TV show's hosts said that "now the two officers that were walking with George (referring to the two officers escorting him across the street), neither of them is the officer we see in the video with his knee on George's neck" so it's very unlikely that the incident with the officer kneeling on george's neck occured between the cuts of this footage. Also, I'm not sure how familiar you are with TMZ, but these guys are most definitely on George's side, so they don't have any conflicting bias that could incline them to unjustly lie about those police officers in an attempt to protect them from otherwise warranted criticism. So I'm inclined to believe that in that moment, they were telling the truth. And needless to say, the video regards the footage as occurring prior to George's killing.

The next link in the google search results is "George Floyd Full Video!" Which takes you to the video "George Floyd 😞 Full Video!" (I guess Google links don't include emojis?) by the channel "Joshquan Brathwraite" (https://youtu. be/nAHo4zkaiU0). This video shows the extended footage of video number 1 that I mentioned from the first link (and it is very unpleasant and off-putting watch). It is definitely extended footage, but again, it begins and ends with the officer's knee on George's neck. This, too, is insufficient proof as the alleged resistance of arrest occured prior to the officer putting his knee on george's neck.

The 4th link in the google search results is "Surveillance video does not support police claims that George Floyd resisted arrest" which as you may be able to tell, is the same link as the second link provided in the google search result (this happened because Google will pin things that pertain to a topic to the top of a search result, and then once you get to the natural search results, it happened to be one of the first links provided as well). But to be entirely clear and thorough, I still clicked on the link and got the URL, and here it is, "https://www. cnn. com/2020/05/28/us/video-george-floyd-contradict-resist-trnd/index. html" and if you check this URL with the URL of the second link provided by the Google search result, you can see that they're the same URL.

The next link provided by the Google search result says "New video appears to show 3 officers kneeling on George Floyd" (https://www. cnn. com/2020/05/29/us/george-floyd-new-video-officers-kneel-trnd/index. html) which, too, is a link that Google pinned to the top of the search results for this topic.

I could continue going down the line of links provided by the google search result, but I think I've made my point, and this response is already long enough as it is. So now that I've not only invested time that did not yield the results you said it would, but I've shown that I'm willing to "bother to get the truth myself," could you please take a mere moment to provide the footage you claim is available? It really shouldn't take that long considering that you're supposedly already familiar with the video.

Now, I don't take offense to your claim about my alleged ignorance (though I would encourage us to try and remain civil) because it can be rather difficult to offend me, but I will dispute this claim of yours. When you know someone (especially if it's several people) is trustworthy, credible, competent, and rational, you can get information from them second-hand, rather than first-hand by searching for information on the incident itself. It's not always perfect, but it's more than sufficient a vast majority of the time, especially when it's a widely publicized event, and especially when you aren't making important, definitive decisions based on that second-hand information. Not to mention, the reactions that are taken place follow a very consistent trend of the public jumping to rash conclusions. It would be helpful to get information first-hand, but apparently it isn't necessary considering that I told you exactly what I would find online before I even looked it up. I told you "I'd be surprised if you could show me footage of the man being approached, ordered and/or wrestled to the ground, then the police officer kneeling on his neck without any sort of resistance prior" which indicates that I believe the aforementioned video is not there. You claimed I could search for this myself and find it, but as we can see in this response, that didn't hold true. There is not footage (that I'm aware of) that shows what I said is unlikely to be available (at least at this point in time, perhaps when the body cam footage of the officers is released, things will be different). How is it that someone as ignorant as myself ended up being correct? I'd imagine you're not willing to attribute my correctness to a mere coincidence, right? So perhaps my familiarity on the matter isn't as ignorant as you had thought?

You claim that he completely submitted to the cop, which is true, but submission isn't eternal, it can be revoked. And considering that there isn't any video that I have seen, that you said I would be able to see upon me looking into it, and you have not provided the footage of the full incident, you can't definitively nor rightfully say that his submission and compliance remained unchanged throughout the entirety of this incident. And for the same reasons, you can't definitively nor rightfully say "nothing about this man was threatening enough to put him in the ground." Again, I'll reiterate, his compliance and submission very well could have remained unchanged, but until there is video proof, you can't rightfully say that is the case.

And I disagree with your claim that calling it a mistake exempts him from any malicious behavior. A mistake is something that is done accidentally. For example, if someone insults you and you get mad and want to punch them for insulting you, and you accidentally kill them with that punch, you had malicious intent, but you did not mean to kill them. You mistakenly killed them via malicious, intentional behavior. That is inherently a mistake. The definition of mistake according to Merriam Webster (https://www. merriam-webster. com/dictionary/mistake) is "a wrong action or statement proceeding from faulty judgment, inadequate knowledge, or inattention." Another example, though this one doesn't include malicious intent, could be running over a pedestrian with your car while you were texting while driving. Texting on your phone while driving which prevents you from paying attention to the road is a mistake. You wouldn't call it murder that the driver killed the pedestrian, you'd call it manslaughter because it was an accident, it was a mistake. Unless someone specifically intends to end the life of someone else, it is not murder, it is a mistake, and it is manslaughter.

But I do agree that the cop fully intended to apply his knee to George's neck (though I don't believe he intended to end George's life). I believe he meant to passify and restrain George through discomfort and subjugation, and he absolutely should have had better judgement. It was a very, very, very bad decision.

And I firmly disagree that you claim I'm attempting to absolve the cop in any way. If I believe he intended to kill George I would certainly not try to convince anyone otherwise. If I am absolving him, then that would mean I agree that he deliberately murdered George, because that's one of the two things I've disputed (the other being the claim of racism, though we haven't discussed that so I assume that's not what you're referring to), and that I am actively trying to prevent a murderer from being charged with murder. Let that sink in. I know that online we're more inclined to say things we perhaps otherwise wouldn't, but you just suggested that someone supports murder and is trying to help someone get away with it. That's a very serious claim, and while I'm not offended per se, it is inherently rude and I'd hope that in the future you're a little more thoughtful towards the things you might claim about others.

And I guess I am "assuming" he had done something to warrant forceful detainment if you're using "assuming" in a loose way, I'm not definitively claiming anything. There is missing evidence and until that evidence is available, claims that depend on that missing evidence shouldn't be definitively made.

And you're welcome for this conversation. I thank you, as well. I've dedicated a lot of time to watching these videos and providing this very thorough response, so I'm sincerely hoping you at the very least respect the time I took to do this and provide a proper response.

Upon seeing Powderpudf97's remark about the KKK application, I looked it up and that definitely seems to be true. In the case that it is, I change my stance on what the officer's intention was, if he was a KKK member or thinking about joining, it's reasonable to assume he, at the very least, intended to harm (rather than merely subjugate) George.

So even if someone resists arrest, does this give a cop an excuse to kill them? He had him pinned long enough to where he could've got him up and in handcuffs, instead he seems to enjoy squeezing the life out of him. Also, if he was resisting, why couldn't they aim their guns at him instead and at least give him a chance to surrender?

      Reply

No, it doesn't give him the excuse to kill him, as I've already stated. If you'd like to ask me questions, please actually read what I've already said. Having to repeat myself is rather unnecessary. And again, there is no proof that he hasn't resisted arrest yet, which I've also already stated. And I'm not sure about the gun thing, you'd have to ask law enforcement about their procedures. But on the show Cops, police officers seem to prefer not having to pull out their gun. Perhaps its more dangerous or it can escalate a situation. I know that an officer has to justify any sort of discharge (which means when their gun shoots a bullet) perhaps they have to do the same with un-holstering their gun. Remember, police officers actually have rules and procedures that they need to follow, and they can get in trouble if they don't do so.

Note that the murdering police officer has now been formally charged. After only four days. Normally, it takes upwards of a year to charge a police officer with such a crime. The reason it happened so fast was because of the violent outrage. Violence kicked justice into moving swiftly.

It is not funny. When white people get killed the media does report it. Most of the mass shooting done in America was by white men killing white people that was reported. However there is a double standard as to how black people and white people are treated in this country and how the criminal justice deals with it

If they care about equal treatment so much why did they not do this when the same thing happened to a white man? It looks like they are getting equal treatment. You just think there's a double standard because the media makes you think that by not Reporting what does not fit the narrative the notice how this is on basically every news channel but when it happens to a white man it's only really a local news.

They are sales like everything else. at this point... nobody cares nor will pay attention to rational as there is a lot of history and misgivings, it's not possible to try and counter balance that this does happen to others, etc..

I wish we live in a world where it was just about a cop killing a person. People protesting until the cops are fired and then thanking the police for doing the right thing not just continuing to burn everything down.

I don't think there is a huge pile up of black guys just getting away with killing white guys and no one caring. They are in jail or on trial. Clearly someone cares because otherwise they'd just be roaming the streets. The difference with this case is, if there hadn't been someone filming this officer killing this man, would that cop have ever been charged with murder at all? Why is it that this cop needed to commit an illegal action within the police department to arrest someone who allegedly forged a check, was in handcuffs on the ground face down, did not have a weapon, did not use force on other officers, and was surrounded by 3 or 4 other officers meaning he did not present a danger to others? You, me, the mom down the street, anybody, should be worried about cases like this because without video of these situations and bringing it to public attention, it means there could be any number of bad cops on police forces across the country going unchecked and getting away with any number of offenses. Obviously the victim did not film his own death, bystanders did, and if the case were a black officer killing a white man unjustly, I'd hope for his sake too there were bystanders around that could at least film or hopefully help him so situations like this don't happen to anyone. Period.

Whats worse though, was the cop watching his partner choke this guy out, and did nothing to stop him. He literally was looking around like nothing!
