Sanctions on Russia. Can anyone explain how they've hurt Russia in any real way?

I guess you don't even know how sanctions work.

The ruble is becoming worthless. If we can get Europe off Russian oil. . . which will be hard to do, their economy will collapse totally. We are sanctioning their central bank. I know you can't understand, but for those who can, Russia stockpiled cash just in case we sanctioned them. Unfortunately, they choose US dollars and European Euros. We have blocked access to those funds. That's something they did not expect, because it hurts our economy too. But they do this because the dollar and euro hold their value. The ruble does not. I can't tell you how many times I have traveled and folks prefer the U. S. dollar over their own currency.

As for other sanctions, McDonalds is not owned by the government. Coca Cola is not owned by the government. Why don't folks like you understand how capitalism works? There was pressure on these companies to stop doing business in Russia. That's it. . that's all. McDonalds stopped just a day ago.

China has offered to buy up Russian oil, a massive 30 year deal. We are told that the ruble is worthless but we will have to see.
I dont think Europe will get off Russian oil/gas anytime soon, simply market forces make Russian oil/gas cheaper than anyone other competitor due to how much they have and geography. America has already failed to build an oil/gas pipeline through Europe. America's venture to export oil/gas from central asia failed with the inability to secure Afghanistan leaving Russia the only pipeline able to export oil/gas from the region and possibly China will build their own pipelines there.

The thing that is great about China is they are greedy back stabbing cheats. So whatever deal Russia cuts with them will alwys be in their favor. China is not going to go easy on Russia, they will rake Putin over the coals because he has no where to go. You have to understand, between the U. S. and Europe, we wield a 40 trillion dollar a year GDP. China ain't standing on principle, they want access to that money and that market.

But yes, longer term we will have to address them too.

Oh, of course it will take time to get Europe off Russian oil. But we have to start sometime. And we have to marry our energy policy our security policy.

We have to stop dealing with freak nations like Russiam, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Iran, North Korean. Religious extremists, dictators, etc. are not reliable partners.

China isn't going to make a deal unless it benefits their economy, the Russians could probably deliver oil/gas to China undercutting everyone else. I dont think Europe will ever stop using Russian oil/gas, even during the cold war they were. The west have tried to threatened Russia and China in the past and its been the west who's backed down everytime.
Saudi Arabia is a western Clent state, the Saudi royal family is keeping the lid on it for the us but the oil will soon run out and the Saudis will be kicked out in a revolution like what happened in Iran which is why the US has them in yemen. Iran is probably the next US target for regime change or invasion, like you say marrying US energy policy to us security policy, too much untapped oil in Iran to let the Chinese have without the US getting their cut. The US has Venezuela under their boot for daring not to toe the line. North Korea is a buffer state for China, they don't want US bases on their boarder.
We are talking about a new cold war, your talking about GDP whereas the real wealth is energy and mineral resources. Between Russia, China, Iran, Venezuela they control an awful lot, if you control that you can largely set prices. The US is going to have to find a way to split this group up, bring Iran and Venezuela out of the cold. Looks like Central asia is now in the Russian/Chinese sphere of influence.
Regardless US GDP is going to go through the roof selling arms to NATO states, Germany will now probably buy those F35s and f18s for instance.
Can't stress enough the strategic importance of Central asia and the untapped oil/gas reserves in the artic.

Those aren’t the actual sanctions.

What is actually being done is the US has banned all imports of Russian oil and gas and the UK is going to stop using Russian gas and oil altogether permanently and about 40% of the UKs gas comes from Russia. As well as putting a stop to Russian projects in Europe like Germany putting a hold on the Russian pipeline there and stopping it from opening.

aside from that multiple international businesses have altogether ceased trading in Russia.

If Russia wasn't a Super Power, NATO Forces would have levelled the Kremlin to the ground by now, but the fact of the matter is, Biden has shown himself to be weak in Putin's Eyes and this is why I think he chose now to take over Ukraine.
He took the Donbas region in 2014 I think it was, under another weak president too in Obama.

The silly sanctions will have zero effect upon either the Russian economy, or Russians themselves. The whole concept is ridiculous because it's founded upon conceit, the conceit that the West and its degenerate "culture" are indispensable to the rest of the world, and that people will somehow be deprived if they don't get their weekly dose of McDonald's hamburgers or violent Hollywood action schlockbusters. The sanctions haven't hurt the Diet Soviet Union. They're more symbolic than effective, unfortunately. Putin is just getting everything from Communist China.

NATO and the European Union needs to close the airspace over the Ukraine and give the Ukrainian government missiles to fire at Moscow. Then maybe Putin will learn something.
