It is already $6.30 or so a gallon here, keeps jumping up quickly.
I expect its going to kill the economy, as people keep spending more on gas they cut back on everything else. Those going into debt to get by are going to be in bankruptcy later on.
Especially here in Rural America, we have no mass transit, we have no choice of any other transportation method... people are literally riding ATV's illegally on roads now to get better mileage.
Okay america, we need to have this talk. It's time we finally move way from gas and switch to electric and green energy. At this point it's way cheaper and causes incredibly less political turmoil.
Let's stop subsidising gas and start subsidising green energy.
Let's stop prioritizing cars as the primary mode of transportation and fix our public transit systems
Let's build our cities with things in walking distance and not one big superstore a freeay away
it is more expensive , you have to get rid of all the lead and hazard materials in cars and batteries and pay $1 Trillion each to build new grids. Quit listening to the liberal socialists lies.
888theGreat It has been a while since batteries where based on lead... Electric grids are *already* changing for different reasons, electric cars or not isn't really the decider here. And the current grid isn't viable long term anyway...
@888theGreat First of all, what does population changes got to do with this? Why do you bring that up? Secondly your statement that the US population is going down is factually wrong. It's mainly well educated white people that's not having kids. Republican anti-abortion and more importantly anti-sex-ed as well as anti -bieth control policies are causing abortions. Look up the numbers yourself, abortions are *far* more common in countries that ban or restrict abortion, sex ed and birth control then those that don't. As for the impact of abortion on population growth, it seems to be negligible in all western countries. As for old people... May I ask what your point is there? How does liberals murder old people if I may ask? I can't really agree or disagree, let alone argue in either direction without actually hearing what *exactly* you are claiming to be true.
Maybe $7 or $8 , at some point nobody will be able to afford to get to work or have bicycle to work if close enough or horses will be popular again, electric cars would be rare because no way to charge without fossil fuel to power the generator stations unless You have solar panels and charge during the day. You should watch that Sliders episode on how it would be , $400 a gallon for gas 😊
First of all, there's plenty of alternatives to fossil fuel power generation. But secondly, and more importantly, electric cars even when running on power from fossil fuel power plants are more efficient use of the power then a ICE car. Being both more environmentaly friendly and cheaper to run. And given US wealth any fossil fuel that *does* exist will continue to be available to power plants long after it becomes too expensive for private consumers in the US, leaving other poorer countries to go without...
@Likes2drive That's certainly true. But hopefully the US will follow Switzerlands example and deliver more goods directly to the wearhouses with trains instead of using trucks the whole way... That would lower the fuel price sensitivity of goods there a little bit. Changes in city planning can also reduce demand for fuel etc. There's a lot that can be done.
@Losalt Definitely logistics can help but I see dumb things where I work in trucking how things are routed, maybe they will finally get better once they see how much it’s costing them, they do use rail boxes from far distance to save
Ah, you guys are one of the few "winners" of the recent mess. The deficiency in experienced truck drivers means that you guys finally have some negotiation power. Although it needs to be directed at the big companies actually hiring the small ones rather than at employers directly. Have you guys considered unionizing? And I'm not just talking about wages here. Indeed with the current mess you could probably get some political leverage too and perhaps change laws, encourage investment in safe rest stops etc...
@Losalt They never listen and they try to go Union but that was a mess and was worse, it’s a worldwide company and never listen to the drivers, I’m not over the road, just city driving and work directly for them so they pay for everything and fuel and write it off but surcharge the customer
Gas in the US is still cheap compared to other western countries. In many European countries, the price is already around or above $ 10 / gallon. I was in the US a month ago and I enjoyed the (for European standards) low gas prices.
The thing is that many people driving cars don't have any alternative, so we keep paying these higher prices. I can't reach my work by public transportation and it's too far to go by bicycle.
