A funicular, popular with tourists, crashed in Lisbon Portugal, with several dead and injured.

My wife and I rode this funicular a few months ago during our visit to Lisbon, so this one strikes close to home.

Always sad when people die, I suspect many were tourists. I've been on a couple in the UK, one in Aberystwyth and another in Bridgnorth. More a novelty than necessity, watching the mechanics is more interesting than the actual ride

The one in Aberystwyth famously crashed into an elephant on it's way to it's morning swim on the beach in 1911 with loss of life.

It's sad that folk lost their lives and that such a tragic event occurred at a national and international iconic place. Once the cause is determined it will hopefully be put down to a terrible accident and not through someone's malevolence or carelessness.

It's a horrible accident, people usually don't expect funiculars to have a crash... but it happens.
