What really happened to Linda Carman on September 18, 2016?


I came across the story of Linda Carman and her son Nathan, and honestly, it stayed with me 🥺🥺😞

On September 18, 2016, Linda and Nathan went fishing from Rhode Island. Something went terribly wrong, and their boat eventually disappeared...

Nathan was later found alive in an inflatable life raft, about 100 nautical miles south of Martha's Vineyard.

But Linda was never found!!

I keep thinking about what that must have been like. Somewhere out there, a mother had disappeared into an enormous ocean while her family waited for answers. Boats and aircraft searched for her. People hoped and prayed that she would be found alive 😐

While the search continued, Nathan faced the terrifying reality of surviving alone at sea. Water stretched endlessly around him. Every passing hour must have felt heavier, and every distant sound or glimpse on the horizon may have carried the possibility that help had finally arrived or that he would remain unseen.

He may have wondered whether anyone knew where he was, whether his family was searching, and whether he would ever see land again. At the same time, the people who loved him were likely living through their own nightmare, waiting for a sign, a phone call, or any word confirming that he was still alive.

But eventually, the search had to be suspended.

And that's the part that really hurts. 💔 No final goodbye. No certainty. No complete explanation of what happened. Just an empty space where answers should have been.

For Linda's family, the ocean became more than the place where a boat vanished. It became the place where memories, questions, and hope were left suspended. They had to keep living without knowing what her final moments were like, or whether she had been afraid, hopeful, or thinking of the people she loved.

I just went looking into it further after a comment by @Staximus and now, I’m deeply disturbed. Nathan was indicted for Linda’s murder, allegedly over money and inheritance, and investigated in his grandfather’s death. He died by suicide in jail in 2023 before trial, leaving Linda’s disappearance unresolved. It’s heartbreaking to think about what her family endured. 💔
