He says it's whatever, so is it?

my best friend is a guy. at times it kind of feels like were more than that, but without the attachments. when I go places I don't always ask him to go with me. sometimes I like doing my errands or going about town by myself. nothing wrong with that, is there? so he would call me and ask me what I was doing and I would say I'm out running some errands. he would get upset that I didn't invite him to come along. no hard feelings, like I said sometimes I accomplish more when I'm alone. then he tells me that it would be nice if I invited him to go with me. although whenever he goes out I never get invited, if he's alone or with friends, he just doesn't ask. its not like I'm trying to get back at him, I just don't think we need to be spending all day every day together, even though I like being with him. I told him I'm sorry and that I would ask next time I went out, and he said that its whatever that I didn't invite him. what does "whatever" mean? obviously it bothered him that I didn't ask him to come or he wouldn't even have brought it up.

then that brings me to the next question.. when we spent the night together for the first time and all we did was cuddle while we slept (spoon, hugging, etc) I asked him if he's done that with any other girls besides me and all he says is ya, don't take it personally, and I see it as whatever. it meant more to me that whatever and I'm guessing it did to him too, but I'm wondering if maybe he's afraid of unveiling his feelings?

what the hell does "whatever" mean?!
