Yes and it is. In all professional sports there's unwritten rules. For example in baseball if you have a 3-0 count its consider unsportsmanlike like to swing at the 4th pitch if you have a big lead otherwise its not . This is because the pitcher is just trying to pitch a strike and is usually right down the plate. Also in Football a team can be up by 40 points with 1 sec left on the 1 yard line they aren't going to try to score or even go for a field goal they will knee it and let time run out. When the Patriots had there perfect season they were criticize the entire season for running up scores. Also with big leads a lot of time starters are pulled from games. There's no reason to embarrass the other team you never know next time you play it might be the other way around.

I think it is poor sportmanship to keep playing hard and making the huge lead even greater when the game is completely over. I feel at that point it is best for a coach to put in 2nd and 3rd string players who don't get to play as much.

It depends. You don't coddle pro athletes. They're all competing on the same level, so it's their problem if they screw up on game day. If they don't get that, they don't belong in the league.

If it's a bunch of middle school kids or something way less competitive, it's kind of wrong on the coach's part to run the other team into the ground if they're less experienced. Most coaches use that as an opportunity to practice drills or get their younger players off the bench.

Why would it be considered poor sportsmanship? If anything, going overly easy on the losing team would be poor sportsmanship.

I don't find it to be poor sportmanship. They're winning in a dominating fashion, so the other team needs to step up a bit and stop them from scoring so much. Constantly gloating about how you just dominated IS poor sportsmanship though.

Not poor sportsmanship at all. You should always play your hardest because its not going to help you or the other person if you are going easy on them. And you should always want to win, and always want to win by as much as you can.
