Why or why not?
I'm very intrigued of what you think.
Thanks!
-No bashing others opinions please!
I completely oppose it. Where else in the world does this system work? No where. Obama wants everyone equal, wants to let anyone in this country, kiss everyones ass in the world. You can't do that. I am an American citizen, I have a job, I pay taxes.. If I were hurt it would take me *18 months* to have a hearing at social security to recieve benefits. Illegal immigrants have rights now? Really? How about socialism vs capitalism? He's already imposed salary caps for executives.. what's next? Is he gonna limit how much someone can be worth because we have to distribute wealth? No thanks. I work hard, I do well, and I'm not sharing it with someone who jumps the fence, pops a kid out, can't speak english.. and ultimately has more rights than me. This is America. Home of the free and the brave. If you can't speak english, wait at the boarder until you can. Stimulus packages? My children are totally f***ed. They have to pay this back.. Not a fan.
Then move there.
I agree 100% with you. To lanky1, do you realize how bad their health care really is? People get put on waiting lists for things. My friend (lives in canada, same health care system as europe) has acute leukemia. Guess how long he was put on the waiting list to get chemotheraphy? 18 months. He now has chronic leukemia because of that!! Here in the USA, you'd get chemo as soon as you needed, AT MOST within a week here.
And how do you know it works in germany? Do you live there?
I was hoping you would argue intelligently but I guess not. I'll admit that I'm not a fan of some of the things Obama has helped put into effect but what's done is done. I'm not a fan of salary caps or anything but the stimulus packages were kind of a must have. Would you have rather had the economy fall on its face worse than it did? It really would have been another great depression without those. I'm not too happy with where some of that money went but at least some of it helped.
Once this bill passes- the government controls almost 60% of publicly traded money.. We are never going to retire, soon the signs will be in spanish. Anyone gets cancer, they're dead. Oh and lets make friends around the world with people who want to kill us. Don't play the intelligent card on me. I have a masters from Columbia. He is a celebrity, the white house lies and fudges numbers. Ironically companies that got billions go bankrupt and exec's get bonuses? Way to go America
Do some research. Watch the news. Canada's health care system isn't the best in the world. And not all of Europe is on the same health care plan. Yes, you can get pretty much immediate treatment here, but what do you do if your insurance won't pay for it if you even have insurance?
I have amazing benefits at my job. The job I got from going to school. The job I work very hard at. I don't care if you can't get treated, in all honesty. I have insurance that will allow me to be treated because I'm not a freeloader. Want me to start sharing my salary with you too?
Like I said, I'm not happy with a lot of that money has gone, i.e. bank exec bonuses. And if we are friends with those people who want to kill us, they won't want to kill us any more. That's what friends are, people who don't kill each other. Yes, he's kind of a celebrity and politicians have always lied and fudged numbers. Nothing new there. And you're anonymous so how do I know anything about educational background? You may not have even graduated high school for all I know.
Oh right. Ya hang on, let me give you my social security number. Have at it. I am anonymous so that I don't have to deal with people looking me up. All set with that. "Big brother" does that enough. Don't need any liberals doing it either.
What if you're involved in some freak accident and lose your good job with its good benefits? You'll be able to afford insurance but insurance is a load of BS. They are a business. They are in it to make money. They don't want to pay for anything. They will try to get out of paying for anything. My brother had to have a cyst removed from his left breast area. We had insurance but they weren't going to pay for it because it was "cosmetic". So we sent them pics of the huge scar but they still...
Sorry for your brother. I am not talking about him. I am talking about the freeloaders. The ones who float over here, can't speak a word of english.. yet get free health care. godforbid I get cancer. no thanks
It was nice to see your boy Obama give a "shout out" to Dr Joe 'Medicine' Crow for his Congressional Medal of Honor. First off, it was the Congressional Medal of Freedom. Which is the nations highest civilian award. Secondly, I would think that this kind of honor would be better addressed than a 'shout out'. This is not a fraternity party, you are the leader of the free world, start acting like it. His swagger is almost offensive.
I am a U.S. citizen with a full-time job. If I need surgery, my wait time is infinite. The one insurance policy my employer offers does not cover major illnesses. When I lived in Europe, my waiting time was almost zero.
Salary caps were for executives who took bailout money, not anyone else.
The stimulus package was suggested by President George W. Bush.
Socialism is public ownership of all economic production. Nobody has proposed that.
Are you lying or just stupid?
The plan proposed by Obama is not "government-run health care." This is not an opinion, it is a factual statement. Anyone who says otherwise is either lying or stupid.
Hospitals, ambulance services, doctors, insurance companies and labs would remain privately owned and operated, as they are now. The only "government-run" service would be an optional public health insurance plan intended for people refused coverage by private insurers. Nobody would be required to use it; that's why it's called a "public option."
As for the suggestion that "government-run health care" doesn't work anywhere, that's also a lie:

Many of the nations at the top have a joint public/private system, e.g. Canada (#6). Costs are divided among private organizations and the government. The goal is to use government intervention to distribute risk while using private companies and non-profits to reduce bureaucracy.
our healthcare system just makes people sicker by suppressing diseases and not getting to the source. I STRONGLY oppose.

I'm suspicious of government-run business in general. And I'm opposed to the particular health care plan promoted by Obama.
Here's why:
We're still waiting on the results of the multi-billion dollar economic interventions promoted by Obama. If that plan works as promised, then I'll listen to what they have to say about health care.
Here's an analogy to make my point. You give a friend a $10,000 loan to start a cleaning business. But before that business is making a profit, he wants another $10,000 for a painting business. And he promises to pay the second loan with the profits from the cleaning business. Would you give him the second loan? Or would you wait and see how the first business works?
I oppose because free health care is not a right just because you were born here. It will cost over a trillion dollars and this will come almost entirely from taxes on everybody who works for a living. Health care needs to be reformed and made more affordable but government take over is not the answer and never has been.
I'm all for it but I don't think this is the right time to do something that expensive. It's not like we don't have enough national debt already. If we're going to have that system we are going to have to pay more taxes. I think it would be worth it to not have to worry about insurance and stuff but the downside is that money is tight for everybody and we need to increase taxes as it is to help pay off some of that debt.
This isn't only going to cost money. With everyone having free health care, doctors are limited, people will get put on waiting lists, and yes, a death panel will be formed. The quality of health care will go down. Guarenteed. Everyone who works in the health care field's wages and benefits will go down as well. I'm sorry, but I'm going away for 10+ years to make a doctors salary, and for that to be taken away. I don't think anything should be free. People should have to work for what they get.
They're not death panels. It's called end-of-life-counseling. Nobody is going to decide who lives and who dies. They help sick and elderly people make decisions and sort out their finances and belongings and such so it's not such a convoluted mess when they do die. Yes, wages will go down but that's something you're going to have live with. You shouldn't be a doctor for the money. The best doctors are the ones who do it because they like to help people.
1) You don't know why I want to be a doctor. Saying it's ONLY for the money is very rude and insulting.
2) If they are going to deny anyone from recieving health care they need, they will die. Therefore, the death panel. And the government will say, "No we don't want to pay for this surgery. Sorry." They are deciding who lives or dies. If a 26 year old has cancer, and an 60 year old has cancer, who are they going to treat? They will forget about the 60 year old. She will therefore die.
Sorry if I insulted you. End-of-life-counseling has nothing to do with denying care. It helps them make the decisions. I'm not saying there won't be any mental manipulation in there but that's beside the point. The person is the one making the decision. And the public option allows for people to get the care they need without government coverage. That's why it's called an option. They may not be able to afford it that way but they can leave govt. out of it and still have it.
Don't apologize. Question Asker is too stupid to be a doctor. Becoming a doctor is something that should be earned, not something to which you are entitled.
There are "death panels" right now; they're called insurance companies, and I've already been sentenced by one. No proposal the Democratic party calls for any government organization to decide who receives treatment and who does not. The "death panel" lie refers to an amendment requiring insurers to pay for "end-of-life counseling."
I am for it, but that's mostly because I'm used to having it here in Canada.
