Alcohol...

Question

He drinks, and I don't like it. He can't understand how much it bothers me, he drinks a lot less now. but still when he buys alcohol, and I suddenly start acting upset. he doesn't know why, I just don't like it period. If anyone has any advice, please help.

Well, first, ask yourself why you don't like alcohol. Is it because he gets violent or verbally abusive when he drinks? Is he being irresponsible while doing it (ie- drinking and driving or something of the sort)? Is his life centered about alcohol? Does he blow you off for parties?

If any of these are the reasons, then you should either A_ break up with him, B_ get him some help, C_do both (Save for the being irresponsible question -- that might be solved simply with a long talk)

If not, then. well, I feel you should try and look at the situation with different eyes. Personally, I see no problem with drinking if you do it in moderation - it's a good stress reliever. As long as you don't cross the line into, binging, addiction or irresponsible behaviour, there's really no harm done.

Does he drink a lot? Because if drinks in moderation, then maybe you should try to be more open and understanding. He just wants a little freedom to do what he wants. The fact is that he does like to drink sometimes, and if it's in moderation then that should be OK, and you should really try to respect his decision.

However, if it is all the time, that is a different story. In that case, I would sit down with him when he is sober and explain to him that I'm scared that he is going to hurt himself by drinking too much. Don't be judgy and push what you think on him. Be caring and look out for his best interest and health. Good Luck.

Give him an ultimatum. He gives up, or you do. If he doesn't/won't then leave the relationship. If he really loved you he'd make some serious effort to deal with the problem (I know I would anyway). There are too many stories of alcohol abused relationships. Don't become one of the statistics - it will screw with your emotions and mind for years to come.

If you can't handle it, break up with him. Many guys will drink at least a little. You haven't really given an idea of how much he is drinking though. Why don't you want him drinking anyways?

my guy used to drink on occasion too, I told him how it bothered me and how concerned I was. and since then he has not consumed the bottle!  I don't exactly know any tactics. but maybe write a letter of how it bothers you  and how it would make you happy if he quit.

If he drinks in moderation and doesn't get crazy drunk, I think you're just overreacting. Sorry, but I think you should just learn to accept it or find a guy who doesn't drink

That's crazy! lol well that's good I guess that he doesn't drink allot  I know where you are comin from  because I like this guy and he loves to drink.And it kind worries me sometime  because he had a problem with one of his kidneys.But you can't really change a person sorry I don't know if that helped at all? For you=)
