Mines 6ft and I'm only 5'7 in height?
What do you think?
It's a general proportion, you may have longer arms, longer fingers, broad shoulders, etc. Height and armspan are rarely exactly equal.
Keep in mind, that's 5 inches more total, which pretty much means that you've got 2.5 on each side that is "extra."
"Normal" human proportions can be measured approximately using the height of the head from the chin to the top as a basic unit. Going by this, here's what is typical:
Head = one head (obviously)
Arms = 2 heads each from shoulder to wrist
Body = 2 heads from shoulder to groin
Legs = 4 heads each from groin to ankle
Feet = one head long each
Neck = 1/2 head
Hands = 2/3 head each
In addition, shoulders are usually 3 head widths across.
My arms are slightly longer than what they "should" be, and my shoulders are a bit narrow.
whats the width of your shoulders in heads? average wise? and yes I'm aware I have longer arms but I was just curious whether people had opinions or perceptions of a guy with longer arms lol.
I consider long arms an advantage in slapping people at a farther distance. Just kiddng :)
My shoulders are just under 3 heads wide. Now, if I were to measure using my cousin's head, I'd probably be able to fit three - her head is taller and more narrow than mine. With my own dimensions, I fall short by a couple of inches in the shoulders; they're about 15" across, but they would be between 17" and 18" if my body applied exactly to the basics listed above.
That makes sense :) ... Because 17 inch shoulders are I think average for a female... and 18 average for a guy from what my short listed research tells me lol. As well as the link above.
Thanks for your in depth perspective of the topic :P
I might keep that slapping advantage in mind also...
You sound like me. hahaha I have freaking gorilla arms. They're so long.
Your arms are a little long in comparison to your body
5 inches longer lol... a bit adnormal?
abnormal*
It just means your arms are longer, it's not uncommon. The "usual" measurements are almost the same numbers (within centimeters or millimeters of each other) but it's not bad if one is bigger than the other.
Don't worry about it, you can always find uses for long arms.

it's probably because you're still growing, if not then it's most likely genetic.
all rules have exceptions and apparently you're one of them
bahahahaha "wingspan"...you have wings?
You win the blond trophy...
Dude...it's armspan. Unless you're talking about birds or aeronautics.
I stand corrected -__- ... still... you knew what I was on about :P ... Most refer to it as 'wingspan'... so don't diss :P
Well, I am a brunette : P ha ha just messing with you
Pfft join the crew ;) lol... superior haired folk here :P
I think you're arms are longer then you're body
yes... 5 inches longer lol... weird?
mind f***
That's a plus dude.
Why is that good though?
Well...think about it having shorter than normal. Long arms gives you the advantage in many things.
When your beefy (muscularity), long arms show in different way. Kinda hard to explain but I think its a good think absolutely.
Ooooh I see what your getting at... lol thanks for enlightening me of that perspective. Of course if were to go down that route, its a bit less advantageous of my height, being that long arms in overhead pressing and bench pressing isn't advantageous lol. But deadlifting it is.
Exactly. Also, the best boxers have longest arms...
