Getting compliments can be quite nice because well it makes us feel good about ourselves and it boosts our self confidence. But it's good to know what kind compliments you are getting and if you should be happy about them. So if you just met a guy online and you are texting back and forth, you can get compliments from friendly to flirty ones.
If a guy compliments you many times it might be a sign that he likes you more than just friends.
If the compliments are only aimed on your looks it can mean that he's only interested in your body and would like to get in your pants.
Calling a girl hot smells more like lust and sounds less respectful than calling her pretty or beautiful which sounds more genuine and respectful.
If the first meeting is him inviting you to his lair (aka house) it's a red flag because again he's thinking about other things.
If he compliments your intelligence, talent, personality, character, etc then he's genuinly interested in you as a person and this shows at the same time that he is quite a decent guy that doesn't follow merely his instincts like some animal.
It's also a compliment in disguise if he asks you a lot of questions because this shows he's interested in you and like to know you and a create a bond with you.
