How to ask my classmate out?

Well I find one of my female classmates very attractive and I would like to ask her out. Well at least I have the impression that she might like me (unless she was just being friendly).

My problem is how can I ask her to meet with out scaring her off?

If she asks me whether its a date or not, how may I answer that question without scaring her away?

Get to know her in class. maybe get to know her better over Facebook, MySpace, texting or something. If she's interested you'll be able to tell from that. If no, move on. When it comes to asking her out, you have to be honest. Come up with something you think would be fun (not movies, those are awkward) and ask her if she'd like to do it some time. If you want to ease into it, do a couple group things. When she asks if it's a date you have to be honest. If she likes you back she'll be excited, if you lie then, you'll be put in the friend zone forever. So be honest with her. It's very hard to "scare a girl off" who likes you back. She's either interested or not and that's how you find out.

We did chat a little during the semester and I do have her msn but she doesn't always reply. I'm not so sure if she likes me because she's a flirty type of person.

you need to take a risk, - I'm a girl I know about this stuff, girls will be happy to just know that a boy likes her- as a friend or more... most of the time when a girl finds a guy likes her she will start to have feelings for him even if she does not already like the boy ! so I think you should take a risk and ask her out - I'm sure you will not scare her off :D!

Before you just flat out say will you go out with me talk to her and get to know her and if she likes you back then ask her out after awhile of getting to know her.

Just ask her out! Be bold, confident... do a bit of research... find out if there's a event outside of school that you could attend with her - ask her to go with you. Maybe there's a cool new spot everyone is going to and you could ask her to go with you?

If she says no, even if it kills you inside, put on a good face, smile and say "I understand. See you around." Walk away. Even though you got rejected that day, she might come around and pursue you in the future.

You're not a p**** to speak to her directly. Tweak it a bit... test her her out first by asking her out. If she continues with this behavior, then you call her out on it.
