What does a French kiss for the first kiss mean?

A little back story:

Over Halloween, the guy I am dating and I went over to a friend's house and hung out for a few hours. We ended up being the last ones there, and he walked me to my car. We hugged goodbye (as we do) except for a really long time... like measured in terms of minutes, not seconds. Then, when I pulled away, I looked into his eyes and slowly leaned forward to kiss him for the first time. As soon as we kissed, he went straight to French kissing. It wasn't that he was a bad kisser, it's just I hadn't expected to be able to go so far at first. He's really sweet and shy, plus I'm his first girlfriend.

What does this mean? Does it mean that he really likes me or that he had been waiting for me to make the first move? (Just to clarify: hands stayed where they had been, his around my waist and mine around his neck. I know he wasn't just trying to get some action.)
Yes! He totally likes you!
He was just impatient and glad that you finally made a move.
He didn't know how else to kiss you
It was an accident that his mouth opened and his tongue touched yours.
