My 15 Unique (Or Not) Pet Peeves

Many of them might be normal to most people, but for me they are inexcusable.

(In alphabetical order)

1) Bags opened from the opposite side

I want to comment about it when someone opens a bag of chips (for example) from the opposite side. There is a reason why they are designed like that. To open them from the proper side, like you see it in the picture.

2) Being unshaven

Truth is that I am bored shaving everyday, but I cannot go out without being clean-shaven. Not only because I find facial hair gross, style-wise…but because it really annoys me when I touch my face.

3) Bitten food on plate

For some reason I cannot explain, I really feel annoyed when I leave some food bitten on my plate. Unless it’s been cut with a knife.

4) May I help you?

If I wanted help, then I would ask for it. But I enjoy more finding what I want on my own when I am in a store. I don’t want a sales assistant to point me to the direction of the item I am looking for.

5) Repetitive Ads

This happens on Spotify. They play the same ad every three songs. I know it’s some kind of a brainwashing technique in order to make you listen to the new single of this artist, but it seems most people will get pissed off by listening to the same ad over and over again!

6) When a record/CD starts skipping

I want everything to keep rolling when I am playing music. If a record starts skipping, then it literally destroys my mood.

7) When items are not placed in a certain order

Whether it is alphabetical order, chronological order, etc. it doesn’t matter. Just in some kind of order. For example I cannot stand a comic book series being placed in random order. I want them to be like #1, #2, #3, #4, etc.

By the way, I should mention here, that’s why I use In alphabetical order in most of MyTakes. I cannot stand putting them in random order.

8. When people criticize others for not dressing “according to their age”

People will dress however they want, whether you like it or not.

And yes, the woman in this photo is 50!

9) When people tell me to put on weight or build muscle

Mind your own body, not others’ bodies.

10) When people don’t round up their age

For example I always say I am 25 if they ask me, and not, I am 24. Even if legally I’m still 24, I am only just a month away from turning 25. So why say I am 24? Anyway, it annoys me when other people do it for themselves. Do you believe anything will change if you say you are “29” (and 11 months), than saying I am 30? Sounds like you are afraid of getting older!

11) When shyness kicks in

When I’m about to hit on a girl, then shyness kicks in and stops me from doing it. Then I blame myself for it and it really frustrates me. Fortunately, it happens way less now than it used to.

12) When someone talks in a formal way, in an internet forum

Relax, it’s not your doctor you're talking to. Be less uptight.

13) When someone talks on the phone for more than 8-10 minutes

I cannot sit and chat with you all the time. I’m really bored. So in such cases I find an excuse of the type, I want to go to the toilet.

14) When the door is half-opened

If it's wide open, it’s okay for me. Same if it's fully closed. But if it’s half-open it really annoys me.

15) When the one earphone gets damaged

There is no worse thing. It’s literally like someone licking your ear. So annoying!

Some of these are just dumb. Like the bag of chips one. How could anybody care. WHY would anybody care? I don't understand. I do that all the time. If anybody takes issue with that, that's their problem.

On an internet forum everyone's trying to sound smart. I get how that would be a little annoying, but it certainly isn't a full on pet peeve.

A couple behaviors are related to OCD. I should know. I have OCD.

It annoys you when you ask people their age (that would be a pet peeve of mine) and they answer honestly. That's odd.

My pet peeve with headphones is when they are 99% broken and there's one position the wire needs to be in and I find that position and then something jostles the cord and they don't work anymore. I hate that. I spent an hour doing that last night because I didn't have another pair of headphones.

She's FIFTY? Seriously. Wow. Just wow. Anybody who looks that youthful can dress in whatever they want as far as I'm concerned. And even people who aren't youthful can. I agree, people who care too much annoy me as well. Mind your own damn business.

Advertisements by nature are repetitive. I just tolerate them. They are necessary. My pet peeve is hulu. They make you pay and make you watch tons of ads. Grr.

If you don't care what other people wear why care how they look? How does them having a beard affect you?

Mainly I just hate people who care way too much about other people. Mind your own business. I can't tell you how many people I've met like this. Way too interested in my life (noticing all my faults so they can make themselves feel better). You can make jokes about anxiety depression or OCD (mental health hotline is great) but if you point out everything I do as though I'm unaware of it, fuck you. I can point out schadenfreude when it happens. You aren't sneaky.

As ridiculous as I personally think some of these are, I respect you for being honest. Everybody has small stuff that bothers them. Superficial stuff. Nobody appreciates people who text while driving. Nobody likes bad drivers. Nobody likes TSA security checks. (someone somewhere does, but you get my point.) But most people also dislike dumb stuff too. I like how you mentioned that stuff as well.

10 is just stupid, what exactly are the advantages of rounding up your age? And do you also round down like this (if you're 31 and 1 month do you say you're 30?) If you are 29 and you say you are 30 then you are just lying, even if you are 29 and 11 months. There are even some situations where rounding up your age like this could have seriously bad consequences, mainly related to age related laws.

I think the thing that annoys me most about this is that it's not even mathematically valid. Because the system we use is centered around the middle of your age. If you're 30 and 1 month, you are a young 30 year old, if you're 30 years and 11 months you're an old 30 year old. The system is centered around the middle so if you are 29 and 11 months sure you are closer to the date that you turn 30 than the date you turned 29, but you are still closer to the center point of 29 than the center point of 30. I mean if it was focused around the birthday then you would logically call yourself 30 even if you are 29 years 6 months and 1 day old.

29 and 11 months means 29.92 (about) years old. When 29.92 is rounded up, becomes 30. How it's not mathematically valid?

If you are 29.92 and you say you are 30 you are lying, and like I just said our ages our centered around the middle point (29.5) in this example. If you are 29.92 you are an old 29 year old. Not a young 30 year old.

And do you also round these things down, why choose rounding up? If you are 31.01 do you say you are 30 because less than a week ago you were 30? If you don't then I guess you're afraid of being young.

i have mild ocd and can definitely relate to some of these (esp. the bag being opened on the wrong side).

when it comes to my age, it depends on when you ask. general rule is:

my birthday< 6 months ago, round down.
in June 2016, i would have said "i'm 29".

my birthday<6 months away, round up.
if someone asks me how old i am now, i'm 30.

re #12~ while much less formal online (as evidenced by me typing in lowercase), i am a literature major/ huge word nerd and almost always use proper grammar/spell out full words, no matter the forum (i hate texting, which is probably for the best, since i don't use chat-speak and my fingers would get tired).

(also, would just like to point out that 'onomatopoeia' in the picture is spelled wrong. #wordnerd )

I like most of these, but I'm the opposite for 10 and 12. I find it annoying when people lie about their age. I also get annoid on here when people who claim to speak English as their primary language type out a question, but it's so awful I literally can't understand what they are saying. I'm not a grammer nazi but for fuck sakes learn to explain yourself in a way that everyone can understand.

The may I help you and the broken earphone annoy me too. The others are fine. It annoys me when people round up their age. Some people do it even if it's on their birthday, like they just turned 29 but they say they're 30 (like they count the time in the womb or something), it's so annoying.

Fortunately as years passing by it becomes smaller and smaller. Imagine 10 years ago when I was 15, I was just becoming all red if a girl... just talked to me.

But the bad thing is that the reputation has remained among my family members. Even if I have made a MASSIVE progress through the years (example, I frequently talk to girls FIRST), my family always remembers me as the "quiet kid" and this is something that annoys me.
