I think we all know that the world is pretty strange. The weirdest is perpetual and makes it way into diseases. Here's a look into some of the world's strangest conditions.

Cotard's Syndrome is a mental condition in which the person believes that they are actully dead and can often be found hanging around graveyards in an attempt to “be with their own kind.”


2) Hypertrichosis - the werewolf symdrone

Congenital Hypertrichosis is a condition in which the body produces excess hair growth on the body. This includes hair on the entire face, torso, and excessive growth on limbs of the body that would not normally have hair. This is due to extra genes on the X chromosome.

Argyria is a condition where silver particles become deposited in skin tissue and mucous membranes causing the flesh to turn blue. It is caused from over eposure to chemicals and/or consumption of silver particles.


4) Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) - the living fossil disease

FOP is a disease in which the body's repair system has been mutating, causing muscle tissue and ligaments to ossify when damaged. The body forms bones across the body, restricting movement and forming a second skeleton.

Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis is a skin disorder in which the body erupts in lesions that look like tree bark all over the body. It is inherited through attainment of the HPV virus.

Leontiasis Osessa is a conditioned resulting in overgrowth of the facial and cranial bones from various separate diseases combined. Mobility of the face is limited and blindness is a common result due to the optic nerve being severed by increased bone.

Hutchinson-Gilford syndrome, also known as Progeria, is a genetic condition in which the aging process is accelerated in children. It occurs when prelamin A is encoded into the gene. People diagnosed with this condition often don't live past their teens.


9) Porphyria - the Vampire disease

Cutaneous Porphyria is a form of the disease in which like vampires, the person is sensitive to sunlight which can cause blisters, deterioration of gums, giving the appearance of having fangs, sensitivity to garlic causing abdominal pain, insomnia, etc. It is often treated with blood infusions.


10) Lamprey Disease

Fortunately, lamprey disease is not actually a real disease. It was an internet hoax that grossed out millions. This diesease caught it's name from the aquatic 'Lamprey' creature; the mouth of this creature is photoshopped onto "lamprey syndrome" pictures. Although it may be a fake condition, it does contribute to the diagnosis of trypophobia.
