Everyone wants to believe their home team is special, but the fact is they only think so because they were born there.



Religion teaches that if you do not accept Jesus Christ as your personal lord and savior you will burn for eternity in hell. More or less. No matter if you are a good person, or are equally devout in another faith. The religion you have as an adult is hugely dependent on the time and place of your birth. If God chose to have you born today to a poor family in India, your chances of converting to Christianity to be saved are near zero. If you were born in South America before the conquistador's came, you were not going to hear about Jesus. In essence, God chooses certain people to burn for eternity and they have no say in the matter.

In football events people play under and respect the rules. People gather up sing and dance, fight with sounds of cheering, accept the result when they are defeated. They sing and dance when they win. Footballers go back to practice more when they did not win, then come back next time to try again, under the rules.

When you discuss religions, the fight never ends. Two sides hold different sets of rules. Sometimes they even abuse the rules on their own side and the leader use the rule for his own benefits. There is no refereee, so no one say who is right, who is to be punished by free-kick.

For me, these two things are extremely opposite poles. Sports are beautiful, but war is just evil.

Nah, Christianity's way better than football. With Christianity if you accept Jesus as who He is, you get to spend eternity in paradise. With football, you spend all of your spare time rooting for your team, and if they go to the Superbowl the tickets cost so much you can't even dream of going. And then to add insult to injury, if they win the Superbowl, all the players get Superbowl rings and huge bonuses, and you get to go back to work hungover and hoarse! Thanks anyway, but I'll stick with church.

Yeah, I agree -- the whole eternal damnation angle can get very distressing. It'd be nice if we could offer ideas about goodness and reticence without getting so worked up about scary experiences that are in store for you. It's just unpleasant and saddening.

I like the Raiders, and I live on the east coast. I realize they blow, but I love them anyway.

Incidentally, a bunch of other religions have you burning for eternity because you don't follow their faith. Who's to say that yours is right if theirs isn't?
