If you tear something bad in your knee, you are going to feel it if you feel around the skin on the outside. If you touch all around the outside of your knee and everything feels pretty tight, chances are lower that you have ripped one of the major ligaments. If you feel like one of the soft tissues is loose, see a doctor. If by loose, you mean that you have lost stability but everything feels tight, stay off it a couple of days. If you have no stability at all, see a doctor.

What could you have done recently that caused this? Did you land on it funny and twist your knee?
Could be any of the ligaments if you had any recent trauma that would have caused the dreaded ACL/MCL/PCL/LCL tears. Swelling isn't always present with those types of injuries, either. I've seen a case of a torn MCL with no symptoms. We only found out because the stability in her knee was shot. It was bizarre but a full tear.
Instead of asking it in here why don't you try to go to he nearest hospital and let Doctor see it.
