Thanksgiving is one of the favorite holidays for Americans. There are delicious foods; turkey for dinner, family is spending time together. But, this holiday makes you look down deeper and think about all the things you are thankful for. And that can be a bit tricky.
The women in the family prepare for the celebration for days ahead so we can all sit down and enjoy the fruits of our labor that God made it possible. Fine dishes with the turkey as the main course join the family together and everybody enjoys Thanksgiving dinner.
Why not appreciate even bad situations we experienced?
When it comes to prayers, what can one be thankful for? Well, there are a lot of obvious things, right? Our children, spouses, parents, friends and all the people we care for come first. That is easy. But, if we sit down and think about this year’s events and everyday activities, there are certainly new and unusual things we should be thankful for. Simplicity is the beauty of life. Small things can make a humble man happy. Why not appreciate even bad situations we experienced, which made us stronger and we came out wiser and more mature? Sure, we probably were not so thankful at that particular moment. But hey, in a long run bad experiences give us an opportunity to learn more.
So, Thanksgiving dinner is an ideal opportunity to step out from everyday rut and enjoy the meal and turkey with our beloved. And for this Thanksgiving, some of unusual things we may be grateful for are:
- Failed relationships. Why? After experiencing this kind of loss, we may find inner strength we didn’t even know we had in us! Sure, it can be hard at first to face sour relationships but it all about ups and downs in life. What counts is the way we react to them.
- Saleswoman. Now you probably wonder what this has to do with Thanksgiving dinner, the turkey and holiday in general. You are on the way to work and every morning you stop at the store to buy some things and there is a saleswoman with a smile on her face, spreading energy all around. Your day starts positively and this is a small thing most of us usually do not notice.
- Our business partner or coworker and his/her bad behavior. When things go wrong, it is easy to blame someone else. Why look deeper and try to find the cause and consequence when we can simply blame someone and move on, right? Hmm…
- We should be thankful for rude behavior of the guy working at the coffee shop. We can learn to forgive because we allhave some issues that put us down and become evident at certain moments.
- Plans gone wrong. Failed intents usually open some new ways and paths that prove even better than previous ones.
- While you are eating your turkey, think about a total stranger you had a deep conversation some time ago. They say it is easier to talk to a complete stranger about our deepest fears and wishes. So, be thankful for the opportunity to learn we are all the same deep down.
- Your boss who didn’t give you a chance you know you deserved, because it gave you an opportunity to become even better and show all your capabilities and skills.
- The wrinkles. Because they are the proof of our wisdom and different experience throughout the years.
Thanksgiving is the beginning of celebration season and a perfect way to count and be thankful for the blessings for the past year. The majority of us will be sitting down to a Thanksgiving dinner. The moment comes to thank God for all the food, turkey, deserts, our family, friends, our health and other things. In the busy world we live in, this a good chance to be grateful for the time each and every one of us have taken so we can spend some quality time with the people we love.
Let’s be thankful for everything a life has prepared for us! All the good and bad combine every day and that’s the life is all about. Keep those in your prayers who may not be as lucky as you are.

Agreed & thank you for posting this. It took me many years to realize that my heavenly Father gave me freedom from the continual trials/tribulations serves up by the hands of a self righteous, halo polishing one posing to be my lover/mate... even though that Thanksgiving I thought I was lost & would die this surprise hurt so much. Once I agreed through prayer to let go and suffer through it, I was given vision, wisdom that led to my angel that saved me and loved me like no other, outside of my Dad & Jesus.
Its true tho, its easy to forget the things we should be thankful for. I feel bad for the people having to work on Thanksgiving instead of spending time with their families. Im thankful for the person who cooked that turkey I ate.
